Great job Miracle-Gro!!! At first the price was a great deal for the size of package but then after bringing it home the easy to open top rip tab really took this product over the top! I bought this soil specifically for repotting my aloe plants since I read online that they prefer a cactus or succulent style soil (fast draining) and so far they are loving it! There was plenty of soil in the package to fill up 3 6" containers and I have about 1/2 of the bag still left for more projects. The soil didn't have an odd smell or anything that might deter you from keeping the plants indoor. Miracle-Gro soil also contains plant food which is a great boost to start your plants off right.
Its fine, needs a little sand and additional perlite or vermiculite, but most serious plant people know this and do their own mixtures. Kind of fluffy and held moisture way too much, but with some additives I like it
My succulent thanks you! I was gifted a plant and used old soil and it worked for a little while and then I over watered and it started to crash and burn. I got this soil and repotted my plant. The portion that I thought would die next was placed in this and it's actually holding strong. I noticed that this soil looks a lot like the soil that is in some youtube videos of recommended stuff so i'm thankful and happy so far!!
Good potting soil. Nice and moist and seems very fertile. I think my succulents will enjoy their new home. I mixed the soil 50/50 with some "perlite", which was recommended from my internet search for cactus-type plants. I believe this Miracle Grow soil is fortified with various nutrients. I'm not a plant expert at all, something new I'm just getting into, so I'm not knowledgeable at all about plants or soil. Wish me luck!
My cactus and succulent were withering after a harsh winter … I repotted them with this dirt and they have snapped out of it …. Very impressed with the results
great product I had to transplant my succulents and a few small cactus and this combo soul was excellent, good drainage, perfect for cactus and succulents! extremely satisfied
I purchased the Miracle-Gro Indoor Potting Mix for Cactus %26 Succulent, 8 qt because I needed a fast-draining soil for my indoor plants. Regular potting soil was holding too much water and I didn’t want root rot. This mix definitely helped with that problem. It drains better than regular soil and keeps plants from staying too wet. It’s light and easy to work with, and I used it for both indoor and outdoor plants (even mixed with perlite) and had good results. What I like is that it’s convenient and ready to use, and it does improve drainage compared to normal soil. It also has nutrients added, so plants get a boost while growing. What you need to know is that it’s not super gritty like true cactus soil. It still holds a bit of moisture, so if you’re serious about succulents, you may want to add extra perlite or sand to make it drain faster. Some people do this to avoid overwatering issues. Overall, it fixed my issue of soil staying too wet, but it’s not perfect on its own. It’s a good base mix, especially for beginners, just better if you customize it a little.
I would normally recommend this however this bag was water logged when it was delivered so I definitely had to let it dry out a lot before I could use it.
Gardener with 40 years experience so not new to this. This is not succulent or cactus potting medium. There is no grit, soil lightener or drainage assistance whatsoever. None. Texture is soft, velvety and sort of made me think very very fine sifted compost or peat moss. I gave it a chance, as there are always innovations. Nope, 3 weeks later and it is still a sodden, soggy mess. Completely plugged the large drain holes in my pot. I had potted my grandmother's aloe vera in it. Had to scoop the plant out and empty the pot and use a stick to clear the drain holes. After adding 1 part perlite and one part sand to one part of this stuff I was able to get passable drainage. This was my last Miracle Grow soil purchase. Absolutely awful. The bag of plain Walmart store brand pitting. soil I got was actually way better product. Cacti and succulents do not need super soft ultra velvet fluff, they need drainage.
2 bags arrived taped up after what looks like it was opened. Who knows what quality of the soil is. Could be someone opened the bag and replaced it with their used infested/infected soil. Could be missing half the bag. The 3rd bag had a hole in it so a high chance of pest infestation. Never buy soil from Walmart again.
