I used this to make a mixed media project with Mod Podge Clear Resin and it looks amazing! I wish I took a picture of it before I gave it as a gift! It was easy to paint. I added chunky glitter and aquarium gravel to the "river" and then filled it with the clear resin. The result is AMAZING!
I love that it is unpainted, believe me we will be using this one plenty of times with different resins and I don't want it to become confusing on one sole color or custom. Also my daughter thought of a few other ideas and projects for it. We are a big DIY family and we like to be able to work a lot in different ways with an item and this one absolutely allows us to do just that. Very sturdy, smooth finish and isn't so heavy so once the resin is complete you don't have to worry about transfer and weight. Barely accidents here. Definitely recommend.
I have never done resin pouring so you can take my review with a grain of salt, but I think this wood plaque is a good value for your money. I love that it is multi-layered so that it appears as though a river is running through the middle of the plaque. This is especially valuable in resin pouring because resin art is often made to look like the ocean, rivers, lakes or another other sources of water. One tip that I've learned about resin pouring is to coat your wood plaque with one, two, or even three coats of clear resin and let it dry before stirring dye into the resin. This allows the resin to soak into the wood so that when you are creating your art, the color will be very saturated and not absorb into the wood because the clear resin was already absorbed into the wood. This maintains the integrity of your art and will insure full coverage of the resin after drying. Please be aware that this plaque is 12 inches by 10 inches because in one of the descriptions it says 12 inches by 12 inches. I measured the plaque myself to verify.
I'm waiting for other supplies to use these -- they do seem like they'll be very easy to use as there is an edge to the resin basin, so I won't have to worry about clamping anything to them! They're lightweight which I like since the resin will give weight and I don't want anything crazy heavy. Hopefully I'll be able to create something really nice!
I had 5 coasters to practice with my first time working with resin, and I highly recommend this as a starting point. I don't have a lot of free time as a mom of three young kids, but this a good art project if you are wanting to dabble in something new. I mixed up my resin/hardener liquids, (mine took 3 minutes each time) added a couple drops of metallic dye, and poured it in the coasters. It was a fun process, and the fact that the coasters have a cut out with edges made the process easy! I might try to stain these with wood stain to give them a finished effect, but overall I love how simple and enjoyable and relatively simple this process was for a beginner!
I've always wanted to make "resin river" items but didn't want to invest in blocks of wood if I wasn't sure I'd be able to do it well. This is a fun way to play around and learn how to work with resin, especially when you're trying to make river-type art. I love it!
These molds are really fun and easy to use with pourable epoxy. I made the mistake, however, of dying the epoxy with an alcohol ink and it bled into the wood really bad, which kind of ruined it. I think it will be okay in the end, however, with some strategically placed wood stain. It was really easy to just pour the epoxy straight into the Little River area and create a really cool coaster. I would recommend these to anyone in the beginning stages of using pourable epoxy, as this was a really easy step and did not take a ton of epoxy. Overall I'm satisfied with this product and it was fun to do with my kids. These well require some extra steps like finishing the wood and ceiling it with some sort of waterproof sealer.
This worked well for me as a beginner to resin. I did have some smaller pieces I practiced on first, and after I got the hang of mixing dyes in the resin, I poured into this large river piece. It was disappointing that the river did not have edges on the top and bottom to hold the resin inside. A little of it flowed out, and I will need to cut this off of my project. Overall, it is not a huge deal (as it's just a bit of resin) but something worth noting. I hope to use wood stain to make my project look more finished. I recommend this piece, as I think it would love great with many different decor styles and for a great DIY giftable item!
I do like them they are all uniform in size and shape. The well is deep enough and they are sanded very smoothly. I did have some problems with the bottoms not being glued all the way on 2 coasters so I was able to fit it really easy. It does get humid where I live so that might have been it and they pour well. And they are paint ready right out of the box for the final decoration. I would recommend them but just make sure to inspect every one before you pour so there are no leaks.
The plaid Unpainted Wood Resin leaf design kit is a fun activity that me and my children were able to enjoy crafting and painting the inside of the wood. We really were winging it because although we have crafted before this is a first for us. Our leafy design in the center of the wood didn't look much like the beautiful picture on the packaging! We mixed our paint with mod podge and then poured it into the wood. After it was poured in we decided to try and swril the paint with a brush. I think that that's when we kind of messed it up! It was for fun and we enjoyed every single minute of bonding over the project we were creating. We then moved on to the coasters. They too were as enjoyable and fun! It takes practice but it's definitely something we will be doing again in the future!
