I wondered what I was going to do with these since I don't grow anything hydroponically, and so I came up with a fabulous use for them -- I used them as "mulch" top-dressing on my patio pots of annuals this year! They are very lightweight and will serve the same purpose as the layer of mulch that I normally have to come up with every spring when I plant my patio pots. The very instant that I began to pour these onto the soil surface, I felt like I had been transported to the Southwest. I just kept thinking "Southwestern". They really do give it that look and feel. One 10-liter bag covered the surfaces of 3 large pots easily and would have been able to do more if I had had another pot to do and gone thinner in my coverage.
We did a lot of planting over the weekend and used these clay pebbles in the soil to help regulate soil moisture. I'm not very good at remembering to water plants and most end up dying. These little guys prevent that from happening. Very happy with this product.
These are perfect little clay pebbles. Super lightweight bags are easy to carry all over the yard. Can be used as decoration in pots or mixed with pebbles as a ground cover. The color is pretty and blends in well with the outside. Easy to spread, can even use a broom. Five stars.
These leca balls are great for my houseplants. They are growing much better without soil and there aren't as many pests like fungus gnats flying around. These leca balls come in small, medium and large sizes all mixed together in the bag. Tip: you will need to rinse these balls a few times before use.
I received the Mother Earth Hydroton Original Clay Pebbles - 10 Liter, Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate. I understand that it I s supposed to hold more water for your plants. I just planted a new basil plant, so I repotted it and placed the clay pebbles on top of the new dirt. I watered it thoroughly and I'm hopping it'll hold water because it's very hot and tends to dry up all the moisture quickly.
This is not what I expected. But a good product. I thought the clay would get wet, but it stays dry. So it would make a great pot filler to keep your large container plants lighter weight. It is much more efficient than using styrofoam in the bottom of the container. It is not messy at all. It looks exactly like the photo.
I have been experimenting with hydroponic gardening the past year. Many members in my AeroGarden group highly recommended using these expanded clay pebbles from Mother Earth Hydroton for the Kratky method of hydroponic gardening. So I was very excited to get started and try these out. I am very impressed! First of all, this is quite a big bag and will last me a long time for my Kratky jars. The quality of these clay pebbles is excellent. They are very easy to use and perfect for hydroponic gardening. These clay pebbles do a great job of blocking the light (to the jar, which prevents algae), as well as stabilizing the plant in the net cup. I would not hesitate to buy more and would definitely recommend these to everyone interested in hydroponics. Thank you for making such an excellent product.
I love that not only do I have options of soil but options of clay to put my flowers in. I love to propagate flowers and this makes it 100 percent easier than just water. Perfect for my peace lily as well! They look beautiful in a clear glass jar and flowers and are so easy to use. Just make sure you don't wash them in your sink as the extra tiny particles can clog your sink!. Best bet is to wash the clay pebbles outside.
So it took me a lot of research to figure out which kind of garden of mine I wanted to use this in. There are a lot of different ones you can use this product for. I decided to use this in ground with my soil. This product is not a substitute for soil if using in ground or with out a nutrition feed. The pebbles retain water or whatever nutrition substances you soak them in. If can be used over and over again. I like this because summers get to well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in my area. So we go through droughts a lot. With the expanding clay pebbles I no longer have to worry about my plants dying from being dehydrated. This applies to me and my gardens. Like I said there are a lot of different types of gardens you can use this product for. It's worth it to have.
I'm not sure what to fully make of this. It would have been helpful if it came with information or even a paragraph showing the usefulness. I ended up looking it up online to get an idea how to best use it. I put it in a pot in order to grow some of the vegetables. I like that it tells you can rinse them before using and that you are to rinse after using since they are reusable. It's an unconventional way to have a replacement for soil but these appear to be a great natural alternative. They will also last very long time since the bag is very big and you can continue to reuse them which is nice. They have not yielded any great results for me yet but I will continue to use them and see. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend. There needs to be information, even a guide so that people that have never used these before will know the best way to use them.
