I needed a security camera system that would provide me with local storage in case of internet outage. This system provided what I was looking for. The wired installation was also easy to install and provided me with not needing a/c or battery power at each location.
This Is My 2nd Night Owl System. I Live In The Sticker Patch Where Temperatures Reach Over 110 Degrees In The Shade, My First System Has Worked Flawlessly For Over 6 Years 24/7/365. I Bought The 2nd 8 Channel System To Replace My Aging 4 Channel System.
I have had my Lorex system for about two and a half years now, and I had to replace four cameras due to the mounts and arms breaking. The DVR is great, but cameras are expensive. I do install camera systems for my customers, and now I can no longer recommend Lorex systems. The Night Owl system is a great system, the only thing I do not like is most of the programing and set up is done through the app.
I am glad I purchased the Night Owl security set. After researching a dozen other systems, and meticulously reading all the features and pros/cons (and taking advantage of the holiday discount), I new this was the right choice. I had a friend help with the wired install (with 6 cameras with light and voice) took a good part of a whole day), and after loading the app was in business! Next is the doorbell. Also, I had a question on the shipment and Night Owl answered my email within 2 hours! Now that's service.
I have been using Night Owl security systems for 15 years. My first unit was a 8 camera wired dvr, my second was a 16 a camera wired unit. This is my third unit, a 16 camera wired unit with the option to add four additional wifi cameras. I hope that it performs as well as the first two, my only worry is that it runs hot as it does not have an internal fan as my first two systems did. This may shorten the lifespan of the unit.
Only little problem eltrick cable not come .
Very complicated to set up and can't monitor it with my MacBook Pro have to use my iPhone. I was told I needed 4 new cameras because the old ones wouldn't work with the new system. I worked on whole day trying to replace the cameras without success so decided to try the old cameras and everything works fine.
Worked for a couple of years then the hard drive stopped recording, so I bought another surveillance hard drive and swapped it out but no matter what the system doesn't recognize the hard drive at all. So now we got cameras that just show a live image but don't record a thing since the original drive is dead and it won't recognize the new one at all. IT supports has been no help except for the only recommendation is "buy a new system".
I recently upgraded my older device because I wanted to improve 3 areas. 1. Motion Detection including using spotlights 2. Notifications 3. Ability to view camera feed when not on local wifi The motion detector triggered when a moth flew by, or when it rained. At night it was almost a constant stream of recording. I could not use notifications or the spotlight. I also leveraged recording areas to minimize the motion detection. This only patched the problem partially. Therefore I decided to upgrade from a DVR-C20-41-JF to a WM-BTD281-4LSA. The new system was easy to initialize and good news it does allow for Human Detection and at this time seems to work sufficiently. Therefore I have enabled the spotlight and some notifications. Also the upgrades to the App have allowed better viewing of my recordings while remote. But I lost the ability to lengthen the recording time for each occurrence as well as some other small features and functions. I would say the App is still a bit clunky and needs improvements. p.s - I am still learning the features and functionality of the new device, hopefully they continue to improve the product As of today this is a solid product in a space with a lot of other solid products. But not a leader.
Positives of this product are that the color and picture clarity is good. Easy to install, connects to both monitor and phone app. Negatives of this product is that video relay to screen is a little delayed and the wide angle distortion starts to far from the camera for our needs.
