This trash can came with a separator for recycle/non-recycle products. don't worry, the seperator board can be easily removed by two little screws that held the board up on the sides. Have your husband help you. Good luck.
I removed the divider by removing the two small screws at the top. The unit exhaled (expanded) a little bit and along with removing the plastic ring dividers, I had a regular trash can. And yes the lid fit on it perfectly afterwards. Please note that I have another trash can that I use for recycling. Also, I am not a big fan of "C" batteries and this trash can takes three. I take rechargeable eneloop double AA batteroes and put plastic "C" battery adapters on them which allows me to use a less expensive rechargeable battery. The motion sensor works great so far. Some reviews stated that it did not last long, so I hedged my bet and bought the 2 year insurance for $5. This is usually not a good bet, but after having 2 Oster microwaves from Wal-Mart die after less than a year with the same amount of service, I figure that it is not a deal if the product has no longevity.
I love the idea that the trash can sorted the recyclables separate from the trash. This makes taking trash out simple and easy. The automatic lid is also very nice but keep in mind this does not come with the batteries needed to power it! It was a nice touch that the trash can came with the stickers and if you choose not to have it battery powered there are ridges from where you can lift the trash can lid yourself. Overall a very solid purchase!
I like this item a lot! it has a divider for trash and recycle. The sensor is not too sensitive so it doesn't open up every time someone walks by, which is good because that can be annoying.
Hides trash in style. Great motion triggered lid. Also wonderful for recycling. .The only thing I wish it was capable of doing is having the opting to remove the divider. This is my second one to purchase in the last 6 years. Very durable.
I found a great deal on this and jumped on it. Works great so far. It had a huge flaw in my opinion. It had a divider down the center, for recycling. The can is not big enough to make use of such division. It is however removable. That makes the top fit funny.
First, the packaging was superb, no dents or scratches. The shipping time was very reasonable. The dual purpose of this trash can is excellent ! I use the smaller side for trash so it can be emptied more often and the larger size for recycle. It takes regular size garbage bags, but I reuse the recycle bag if it's still clean, and it usually is. Use a good quality bag because if it leaks it would be hard to clean the inside. The bags stay in place due to the addition of holders. Easy to take off an put on. The can is rather light weight so it may not hold up under hard use or over time, but for the price it is well worth it. I can't review the auto lid feature as I haven't put in the batteries, however it opens easily without due to the small recessed area on lid.
Looks nice and operates nice. The problem is that it has a center divider, perfect for seperating the recycling but each half too small to function easily as trash can. I removed the center divider but the the can flexed too much for the top to stay on.
Can is way too small for recycling and trash. They should make so it can be converted to use the can for one or the other. I would have to empty both sides on a daily basis. If not more than once a day. Go Bigger!!!
I don't know why they say it takes 13 gal trash bags...well, I guess it does but in that sense it could also take 40 gal trash bags. Or 1000 gal trash bags. they'd just be way too big for it. It would be a waste and you'd be pulling out half empty trash bags every day because the can would get full before the bag actually did. This might work for 1 person households especially if there was a smaller size bag available which I don't think there is. You'd have to design tall narrow bags for it...10 gal bags for the trash part and 8 gal bags for the recycle part, for it to make sense. If such bags exist and for a fair price, and you're one person, go for it. Otherwise don't "waste" your time. Picture looking into a standard 13 gal trash can and seeing it separated into 2 compartments 60/40 split. It's a shame because it could in theory be great and they look like decent quality but even at the discount price it doesn't make sense so they are being returned unused tomorrow.
