No Country for Old Men (Criterion Collection)

I was about halfway through the Cormac McCarthy book this movie is based on before I started wishing Sam Peckinpah were still alive, desperately wanting to see him adapt it for the big screen. Little did I know the Coen Bros. could do an equally good job. It's bleak and pessimistic, yes, but it's also impeccably crafted, with aces acting work all across the board. And while Criterion's 4k offerings have been a bit spotty in terms of technical quality, this one is fantastic.

Beautiful cinematography of the South Western landscape. Excellent ensemble cast and acting. A film that explores the notions of fate and chance versus the existential predicament or situation. A film that explores themes of free will, intelligence, perseverance and a personal code of conduct through a seemingly happenstance circumstance the protagonist that results in a life threatening and relentless pursuit by the antagonist. Rugged individualism is contrasted with the harshness of nature. Crime and criminality is compared and contrasted the law; and the open question is posed as to what truly gives life meaning.

I had pre-ordered the product on Amazon, but realized quickly it was not going to ever get shipped and just get cancelled. I went to Walmart's website, found it for a cheaper price, and got it delivered in a few days.

Movie came in with no shrink wrap. Looked pretty good but seems like it could possibly be a previously returned item.
