The Substance (4K UHD), MUBI, Horror

This was absolutely bonkers. Demi Moore delivers one of the strongest performances of the year and proves to all the negative critics that she is an ACTOR with superb range and a fearless attitude towards her craft. I hope this opens new doors for Moore moving forward. The film itself needs to be seen to be believed. It's grotesque, it's satirical, it's bold and at times truly gut churning.

Typing with the on-screen keyboard and lag, so I can't write a long review. This movie is not for the faint of heart or those prone to queasiness at gore and body horror. Phenomenally well directed and written film with fantastic symbolism and carefully curated meaning and foreshadowing for many character moments and scene imagery. It's something worth seeing but it's probably a one and done watch for most people. I think it's one of the best films I've seen in the past decade. In a nutshell, it's basically a synergy of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and The Picture of Dorian Gray, with levels of Cronenberg style body horror taken to the absolute extreme.

This movie is so bonkers in a good way. If you love David Cronenberg body horror movies, then you should love this one. Lot's of crazy stuff, with good cast. The 4k and Blu-ray picture and sound are both excellent. Highly recommend owning this movie.

Ever wondered what David Cronenberg's The Fly would be like if it was directed by Stanley Kubrick? Well, wondered no more. Kudos to Demi Moore for having the guts to show us her guts.
