Since we have a mobile home and only have gutters around our door covered porches we placed these under the shingle edging. They did not appear very sturdy doing it this way but once we strung the icicle lights through the clasp and around the clasp securing the top of the shingle as a loop it created some weight to secure it. These used as gutter clips worked perfectly.
