Olive & June Gel Nail Polish Starter Kit

I purchased this product directly from Olive and June originally. I wanted to purchase it as a gift and did a little shopping and found the same price for cheaper at Walmart.

At first I thought this wasn't good because it didn't "fully cure" the base and color coat-they were still tacky. But then I did more research and found that it isn't supposed to fully harden until the top coat. So keep that in mind with everyone that says it doesn't fully cure-the base and color coat are supposed to be sticky so that the next layer sticks, then the top layer seals it all in.

After have acrylic nails done in a salon for 25 years, I decided to give my nails a break. My nails are small and I missed the look of more "finished look" of salon nails. After watching a lovely, mature influencer on YouTube give her Olive %26 June recommendation, I decided to take the dive and purchase this Starter Set and give it a go. I was sold after my first try! Yes, my first attempt took a little bit longer, but I was off and running! It is nearly flaw-proof! I enjoy the time to myself and the satisfaction of doing such a nice job. The kit has everything needed and it will last quite a while because the goal with Olive %26 June is to use thin layers. Give it a try. You'll be happy you did.

I found I need to make sure to use a fine brush around my nails to clean up the polish and the base and top coats before curing since it makes my skin burn when curing. I am enjoying using a gel polish with the LED curing. My polish looks great and lasts longer.

This is not a bad little kit for a beginner like me. I wanted to experiment doing my own gel nails, and this kit is great for that. My only problem with it is the included peel off base coat that the instructions say will make removing the polish easier. Well it certainly does that! Except it’s a little too easy. Within 3 days it had all peeled off. I love the concept behind it, but I tried again without using that peel off coat with much better results. Maybe when I get better at doing this I will discover that I used it wrong, but for now I’m quite happy with the kit without the peel off coat.

I’m sure there is a learning curve but I did try to follow the directions. Polish peeled on third day and the soft pink polish(Poodle) was beautiful on day 1 but by day 3, my nails were tan not pink. Don’t know why the color changed on my nails. I will try again later this week and hope for better results.

I purchased the peel-off starter kit. The light failed with first use. I plugged up the light and it popped and smelled burnt. I did not own a 15watt charging block so I used a 20watt. The Olive and June website said you have to have a “MINIMUM of 15watts” so I thought a 20watt would be fine. Apparently not. The company is replacing the light free of charge but did insinuate that I used too strong of wattage but the wording on the website disputes that. So they should clarify that statement. My sister bought the same kit and her light is getting very hot with use. I’m not sure if that is normal or not. So hers may go out too. I wished they had a normal plug in since these are not chargeable anyway. I purchased the product because another family member bought it and her nails looked better than a salon manicure. So I think it will be a nice product to save from going to salon. I own another UV/LED light that has same output measurements as the Olive and Junes’ light. After practicing a few times, the products worked well. It does stay a little sticky so I put it under the light more than suggested and nails were still sticky. Then I just continued with the process, despite. After last step of putting on the top coat, it was completely dry and hard. So it will be dry at the end regardless of being sticky during the previous steps. Maybe that’s normal IDK, first time I’ve ever tried this myself. I purchased 2 colors- Field Day and The Queen takes her tea with milk. Both ver nice colors for my neutral to cool skin-tone. The only thing I’m curious about is how well the peel off will work. I am happy I am trying the product because it is affordable vs going to the salon and having my nails painted always makes me feel better about the way I look. Hope this review helps you and I do appreciate the company standing behind their product.

So disappointed. First, I did love the color, The queen takes milk with her tea. I had high hopes for this gel system. I followed the instructions, did all of the coats that were included and used the dryer after every coat. Even though the dryer was way too hot. But by the very next day, the nail polish peeled completely off three of my nails. Not what I expect from a gel nail polish . It was a complete waste of money.

I know it's a one star, however I received a defective lamp which only worked if you unplugged and replugged in the power after every cure. It took me 3 hours to cure my nails because of this and I also had to double- triple cure to ensure it was finished. Do I think all of them are this way? No, I don't. I think I got a bad one and it really soured my opinion of this product. I'm not sure it's because it's a small kit in a store vs the official website. I still recommend it because there's nothing saying you could have a better experience than I did. It could've been a fluke.

I wanted to love this kit, so badly. I bought a gel Olive %26 June polish to use with the kit. The polish itself, super gloopy. Like, blobs of polish, regardless of how much I shook it. The kit is very user friendly, the brushes are easy to use, the lamp is great. It is also worth noting that I read ALL instructions thoroughly and watched all of the Olive %26 June tutorials. The polish peeled and fell off in a sheet from every single finger within 48 hours of application. Every. Single. Finger. Toes are still going strong, but I feel like they don't account for washing dishes, etc. when they made this formula. Probably a great option for younger people who aren't washing their hands 8374 times per day while doing housework, or washing dishes for 20 min at a time.
