Shane is perhaps the best western from the genre which started with the Great Train Robbery (1903), to Stagecoach (1939), to My Darling Clematine (1946), to Shane (1953), about a retired gunfighter who wanders into the frontier where settlers face a hostile takeover by a local landowner. One of the greatest western films in movie history. See Pale Ryder (1985) for reference.
A timeless American classic — Shane (1953) is a masterclass in quiet, mythic storytelling. George Stevens' direction, Alan Ladd's weary, charismatic performance, and breathtaking cinematography create an emotional simplicity that hits hard: heroic, elegiac, and unforgettable. Short, spare, and infinitely rewatchable.
a must own

Ease of purchase and delivered to my door.
Great quality. Superb cinematic experience.
They don't make movies like this anymore. Wonderful.
good movies for elderly gentleman in my family just wished there were more movies on it. great for winter time boredom.
This is a really good movie that I've probably seen about a dozen times and simply wanted to get it on Blu-ray. In all fairness, I've seen better movies of the Western genre, but not very many. Alan Ladd plays a gun slinger making his way across a farmer's land and stops to water his horse, the land owner (Van Heflin) who has been having trouble with the local rancher (Jack Palance) isn't quite welcoming to the visitor passing through, but when the ranchers men come bringing trouble, Ladd stands along the side of the farmer, telling the ranchers to move along. Jean Arthur went into retirement shortly after filming this movie returning only to be a guest on Gunsmoke, with this being one of her best movies that I've seen her in. Great movie with a gut wrenching ending that will cause even the hardest of men to choke up a little, a seminal classic for western fans to watch and even if you're not, it will be hard to watch this and not become one.
