Pennington Recipe Selects Sunflower Chips Wild Bird Food, 15 lb

During the latest freeze we used up all our seed and had to get more. These fit in with the other bird food in our feeders and makes it easier for the smaller birds to eat. Bag was easy to carry and empty into our feed bin. No debris in the feeders or on the ground

I've been searching for a 15 lb. of sunflower chips and have only found the whole seed, which is what I've been using. The little sparrows and songbirds to my feeder need smaller chips and these are PERFECT! They just cost a tiny more than the 15 lb. of the whole seed I usually get (needing without the shell for my patio).

Although it is important to let Nature be and run course as we do not often have hive mentality nor the depth to sacrifice for the better good of All, humans have encroached on territory where fauna flourishesld long before humans came upon the land. So during cold weather or certain situations I think it is fair that we provide them the means to make it balanced whenever possible. Squirrelly sure was happy and let me watch him snack today. Also was given the gift of a song from a very happy Mama bird! As humans, let us never forget our first teachers, the ones who remain natural, and are beautiful to even give us a chance to make up for all of the harm we may not even be fully aware of bringing into their homes.

All the birds love this, it is their favourite! We also feed the whole black oil sunflower seeds, shelled peanuts and suet - this provides food for all the bird species we get overwinter here. In spring we add fruit and natural grape jelly during migration time, hoping to attract orioles (so far no luck), and put out hummingbird feeders in early May. These choices please all the birds and result in virtually no waste. We have stopped using the various blends of mixed seeds because there was so much waste - birds simply don't like the "filler" seeds like red and brown millet, and toss them on the ground, leaving a huge mess to clean up every spring when the snow melts.

We have a large bird feeding area in our backyard, and the sunflower chips are a staple seed for me. They prevent sprouting underneath the bird feeders as they are a zero waste product. I usually buy them in a 3 pound bag, but pay much more per pound for the seed... and my birds eat it quickly. This is a newer product at Walmart in a larger quantity. It is just as high quality as the other brand/size, and lasts me much longer between purchases. Highly recommend this one.

i love these sunflower seeds because the cardinals love them. i can look out my kitchen window and watch them on my bird feeders. The yellow finches love them also. The combination of the red cardinals and yellow finches sitting on my bird feeders and flying to and fro when a red winged black bird attempts to drive each of them away is a beautiful sight and quite entertaining to watch.

These are not sunflower "CHIPS." They are a mix of mostly sunflower KERNELS, with a small amount of chips here and there. For my smaller birds, I have to put these through the food processor to grind them down smaller, which I wish the producer had done in the first place, and certainly had not advertised them only as chips. Misleading. Yes, I would recommend them, as the quality seems to be good and clean, but you should be prepared to food process them if you want something smaller than kernels for the littler Birds.

This particular seed should work well with a feeder that has really small holes for thistle and most tube feeders. The seed is chopped up very small. I would not use it in a hopper feeder or any feeder with an open tray on it. If it gets wet you will have a mess. I wish that they would stop putting synthetic vitamins on the bird seed. Is the seed so old that it has no nutrition in it? I know that some of the other types of feed that this company has nuts in it that are so old that when you try to break one of the nuts they bend instead of snapping in half. That is old. Synthetic vitamins are not helpful to the birds. It isn't natural. If the product is fresh then it has all the nutrients that they need.

Not a single bird, sparrow, dove, finch etc. Will eat these sunflower chips. The Squirrels also avoid the feeders. I've never bought any seed these Boise birds won't eat, until now. What is wrong with this product? I can't believe it's a Pennington product. The feeders are still full. I put the other product I bought in other feeders and it's gone already. This stuff must have something wrong with it.

Bag was wet inside. Unusable as contaminated for birds. Unfortunately threw away, not knowing item needed to be returned for refund. Have bought this item before many times without a problem. Will no longer purchase bird food from Walmart. Two items in delivery came damaged.
