My daughter and i absolutely love the story line and the ease of understanding the songs that go with the movie...one of the best since grease was put out .

awesome

This dvd is all I expected it to be with an added bonus: a song that was cut from the movie! For someone like me, who will never get to see a broadway show, this was a dream come true. All in the comfort of my own home! The Phantom of the Opera is awesome.

Must Have

Kathy June 28, 2007

This movie is not your everyday musical. This movie has drama, passion, seductiveness, mystery, love, hate, amazing sets. The cast is superb. Gerard Butler is the best Phantom ever. Dare I say he is better than Michael Crawford from the original broadway cast. Sixteen year old newcomer Emmy Rossum will steal your heart away as Christine. Have a box of tissues with you because the ending will have you crying, jumping for joy, and cheering for the phantom. You will be humming the music for a very long time. This movie is the best movie I have seen in a very long time. I am proud to add it to my collection. I also purchased the two disk movie soundtrack and I can not stop listening to it. Enjoy, you won't regret it.

Fantastic

Steelbear August 21, 2011

This movie is amazing! I love that this movie for many reasons. 1) Not as musically conveluted as the play (which I love too) 2) the voices are not overbearingly operaic so it's easy to listen too 3) it puts a whole new light on the play, book, and movies. 4) everything was so beautifully done. I have owened 3 copies of this movie not including this one. Two of the others were just worn out and the other, this verson was stolen from me. so I just had to order another one. I paid twice this much for the same DVD as this one at Freddies. I Love Walmart, and I LOVE POTO!!!!

I introduced my teenage daughter to this movie then had the chance to take her to see it live on stage, she is still in love with it.

The DVD case was damaged, and because it was a gift to take on a trip to another country, I didn't had the time to exchanged it.

An Unexpected Comedy

ElGordo February 17, 2010

The movie overall was merely OK. Not great, but watchable. Then the singing sensation known as Gerard Butler opened his mouth and tried to belt out a refrain or two... Comedy Gold. The man has a hard time hitting the notes. He also sings like he's gargling gravel. Acting-wise, he's reasonable. I just can't fathom why he was cast as a singer. The Phantom's songs were all written for high tenor, but Butler is at best a chain-smoking baritone It's nice to be able to see the Phanton without paying $70 a ticket, but it's just not the same. They excluded many songs, but had plenty of time to create a new backstory with a bunch of scenes not in the play. The extra scenes cheapened the movie. They were trying to soften the Phantom's character. It was unnecessary, and the whole tone of the movie changed when the added scenes were shoved in there. He's supposed to be a ghost! We don't need the extra backstory. Who cares if he was unloved as a child (well HIM of course, but I digress). The movie cast wasn't as good as the play, but everybody else but Butler was tolerable. He's just funny
