I've had my griddle for a year and used about twice a month and my top has absolutely no deterioration or excessive wear. The griddle has never seen any metal cooking utensils or abrasive cleaning products or tools. I use only Pit Boss utensils for the griddle and clean with Dawn soap, water and the Pit Boss scrub pad (recommended by Pit Boss). Another tip would be to not use oil (as you would with a steel grill). I use butter and only enough to flavor. My experience is better than most reviews. You can't treat this griddle like a steel top.
I have used this four times and I haven't even had it a week. I absolutely love it. Food just slides right off of it. Cleaning it takes no time at all and I use way less oil than I did on my Blackstone. I really only use oil and butter for eggs, chicken, and veggies on it. Smash burgers got an awesome crust on them. Only complaint isn't even the griddle itself, it's the shipping because it arrived with the bottom shelf dented and slightly creased but I was able to force it into shape when I put it together. IDK what FedEx did to the package but it was ripped in half 2/3 of the way around and taped back together but everything works fine and all parts are there so I decided just to keep it and not complain. It is well packaged but just looks like they absolutely abused it along the way.
I got the 4 burner Ultimate griddle a month ago. Because of the (much needed) rain I used it in the garage the first couple of times, but finally got to cook outside this week. I watched dozens of griddle videos before I wisely selected this griddle with the non-stick ceramic surface. It works just like my new ceramic non-stick pots and pans. While it's not completely non-stick, it is WAY better than my plain iron or steel pans. Much less oil is needed and cleanup is a snap. I've made 4 meals so far, each one better than the previous. Yesterday I made one of the best steaks ever. Great sear. Grilled prawns that made my wife fall in love with me all over again. Grilled veggies and potatoes. Toasted buns. Yummy. The engineering and build quality are impressive. Most of the parts are powder coated, even the screws. I assembled it in less than 2 hours all by myself, which was foolish of me because this thing is quite heavy as well as being heavy-duty. The design is brilliant. The lid is well balanced and rests on rubber bumpers when open or closed. The corners of the cooking surface are rounded which makes for easy cleaning. The trash bag holder is a little light weight but it works and it's nice to have a handy place for wrappers, scraps and used paper towels. I'm using non-metallic tools and still looking for the best ones to use. My initial tool set is already starting to warp so I'm going to try silicone coated stainless next. A wooden spatula worked well for cleaning up a little bit of stuck on food, and a silicone coated bowl scraper does most of the cleanup like a squeegee. Just like in the videos. As a newcomer to flat-top cooking I really appreciate how user friendly my PitBoss is. It works just like I hoped it would, and that's saying a lot.
Have had this for about 5 weeks, and cooked steaks, burgers, hash browns, eggs, & vegies. The cooking heat range is exceptional compared to my old grill. I bought a laser heat gauge to fine tune the exact heat I want, and it works great. The control knobs maintain the exact heat I want. Clean-up is the best part of this griddle. Start to finish less than 10 minutes, including re-oil for next use. The steaks maintain the juice inside, unlike my old grill, where the juice fell through the grills. I wonder if some of the long-term complaints are due to failure to maintain the griddle with oil and after use maintenance. My only complaint is I waited to long to switch from grill to griddle
I have only cooked a couple of times on the griddle and like it a lot. Assembly took some time, but the last several steps to take are only in the Spanish section of the instructions.
Have had griddle for 2 years. Followed instructions for seasoning, which I didn't think needed to be done with ceramic coated griddle. Everything sticks and is almost impossible to clean well. Have use plastic and wooden utensils and have oiled in between cooks, nothing works. Extremely disappointed in this griddle. Additionally my unit is covered but the shelves are bubbling and rusting.
After a year of use and carefully trying to maintain the surface of my Ultimate Griddle I'm not impressed. You can not over heat the surface for fear of damaging the ceramic coating. You must use plastic utensils so you don't damage the coating. Which are not as rigged and not as functional as steel utensils for flat top griddles. You must carefully clean the top after every use making sure not to scratch the coating. Even after doing all these things for a little over a year of moderate use. My coating has failed.
Have had this for 2 years and the ceramic coating is coming off. They NEED a stainless steel replacement top for this. It would make it the best because it would be light weight and it's portable. Sadly they only have the ceramic which is complete garbage.
The idea of this was great but no matter how you store and how carefully cleaned and cooked on its already destroyed and unsafe to cook on, not to mention no way to replace the cooking surface,
Disclaimer: I have a Pit Boss Pellet Smoker and now this Pit Boss Ultimate Griddle. The powdercoating/painting of this Ultimate Griddle was done extremely poor. Despite being under the Pit Boss cover, the powdercoating on the shelves began bubbling within 2 months of ownership. After 5 months the powdercoating had completely released and underneath with a rusty shelf. I was told that Pit Boss's warranty does not cover any form of rust no matter how in short of term it is demonstrated because it does not effect the functionality of the unit. With that said, my Pit Boss smoker sitting inches away from the griddle and 3 years older doesn't have a spot of rust or bubbling powdercoat on it. Other issues include poor heat dispersion, the ceramic coating on the cooking plate has just as many cons as pros, it is easy to clean assuming you don't heat the plate anywhere above 350°F which obviously defeats the purpose of the griddle. Once something does stick despite it being a non stuck surface, it will take ten times longer to get it cleaned up. Overall, it should just be a way better product for the money.
