Plantmates All Purpose Spreader / Scatter Box

I picked this product because the competitor product, Scotts, gets terrible reviews on every website, even their own. Walmart was the only vendor to offer a different product, and I was pleased to see that it was offered at a comparable price. The product I received appears to be robust and well built. However there seemed to be a loose part inside which rattled when the unit was moved. I took it apart and, sure enough, the shaft bushing was free and rattling around inside the spreader. I suspect that someone lifted the unit by its crank while packaging it for shipment to me, extracting the crank, and reinserted it without realizing all the internals were not where they should be. It was easy enough to disassemble the unit and fix it, and now that I'm thinking about it, I will probably take it apart again and reassemble it with some glue or adhesive so the crank cannot be removed--the way it should have been assembled in the first place. That's why this unit gets 4 stars, not 5.

As of right now I can not write a complete review for use. I believe it will be just fine.

Sturdy built, works well, Storage box could be bigger, have to make a lot of trips back to the feed bag.

The hopper is a little small. Had to fill several times to fertilize back yard. It did clog once. Seems to made of sturdy material. Very hard to read settings and no trigger. Had to turn dial off to fill and then put back on setting to use it. I had used a neighbors Scott spreader once and liked it better but read all the bad reviews so decided against that one.

The gears dislocated and broke the first time to use it. Waste of money.

The handle broke the first time I used it. Yes... pretty disappointing to wait days for an item and then have it break with-in five minutes.
