I really like these Flash Drives, they're excellent for creating a Recovery Drive for your computer, in the event of an emergency, because of the 32 G capacity. Now I have my Desktop Computer, Laptop, and my wife's Laptop set up with Recovery Drives.
I have used PNY USB drives for many years, and never had a problem - never had a drive failure. However, the covers of the newer drives are a little "fat", and if the USB slots you are using are closely stacked, sandwiched together, the PNY drive may be too wide, and block access to the adjacent slot(s). Not a problem with my laptop, but it was a problem with my desktop.
I've used other PNY drives and they have held up well. Its actual capacity is 461 GB. I have learned over the years this is normal but I do feel it is a bit deceptive. But this is just how manufacturers work The USB connector was a bit difficult to retract but hopefully with use it will loosen a bit. The housing is plastic and okay. I do like my PNY with a metal housing better because it is very sturdy and I've had it for many years. I think this one will hold up to normal usage as well, I just feel the metal ones are sturdier. But this one is faster since it is newer and 3.2 instead of 3.1 so it will work hopefully for as long as my other ones.
I am using these for emergency recovery drives. I formated them completely and found no problems or hidden software.
I got these so I could put recovery bootable OS onto the USB, I thought 100MB/s read speed should be plenty. But oh wow! Try 5 MB/s ... These advertise speeds they could never reach, and the controller chip gets so hot it thermal throttles. The plastic enclosure makes the thermal problem even worse. How do I know? I took it apart to see why it was so bad. Controller is Phison ps2251-19-26 Flash memory is TLC HVKLF JL C22336D 3HB VKLL (unknown brand) So yeah... I have USB 2.0 devices from 15 years ago that still work fine and give 20MB/s speed even after all the use. These are 6-5MB/S write speed, and 20MB/S read. Kingston has really let their quality slip, as well as their ability to tell actual truth from fiction.
The item has only 25 GB of available storage. I am aware USB sticks are like this, but only getting 25/32 is a rip off. The item is also difficult to open and close. The item is also so thick that if you plug it into your pc it makes one of your USB slots unusable, lol.
Sliding cover is slippery and does not latch in place, makes them very difficult to insert in a restricted space. Sliding cover makes them much bulkier than they need to be, if you have tightly stacked USB ports (like on a laptop) they probably won't fit side by side. Buy something else. Very poor physical design.
Bought 4 of them with one of them been bad. I have bought hundreds USB and this is first time one which was bad, costing me hours of time before I run test on it to find out why system recovery USB would not boot up. Also this are USBs which don't have LED which would tell you status of read or write to device.
Plastic junk locking mechanism not only hard to get to even with a plastic tie but it's so cheap it won't even lock half the time. PNY use to be a quality product, NOT ANYMORE
Got a two pack of the 32gb sticks and loaded both with Linux, used them to boot with and then one of them never could be recognized after that. The other worked fine and they were formatted the same way. The one isn't recognized in anything after one use. 50 percent failure rate.
