Great Product great price

RJstuff December 3, 2013

Had to replace my old monitor that had USB ports with a new one that didn't. So, looked for a reasonable USB extender. Found this with 3 USB ports and multiple card readers, picked up at the store (ordered online). Works great and doesn't take much space. Great product

Works well, short cord, glows in the dark

techguy79 April 16, 2016

This little device is plug and play; it starts working just a few seconds after you plug it in. I use it for both the card reader and USB dock functions. Both work very well to the extent that I've used them, although I've only had it a few weeks and I've only used the regular SD card slot. The first drawback is the short cord, so make sure to get a USB A male to USB A female extension cord, which you can also find on walmart.com for just a few bucks, or some other similar site. The second drawback is that the device has a light-up logo on the top surface that glows purple as long as it is plugged in, even when the computer is in sleep mode. It is not a particularly bright color, but it is definitely noticeable when all other lights are off. Be aware that this may annoy those who have their computer set up in their bedroom, and it may also use a small amount of electricity even when the device is not in use, unless the computer is completely turned off. Overall, I feel like this is a good purchase for the money.

Great product in spite of poor reviews by others!!

GunghoAggie September 29, 2012

I have Windows 7 and everything (all three USB ports and the card reader slots) immediately worked without Windows 7 even notifying me. I would have preferred that the cord had been on the back and another 24 in. longer; however, turning it 180 degrees solved that problem (I don't care if the "Combo" blue light is upside down. Since this unit replaces another slim hub with a 1 in. cord, I already had an extension USB cord plugged into my PC. And contrary to my previous USB slim hub, this unit stays cool (and looks cool). This thing is a winner and I highly recommend it.

works for MS Pro Duo mk1

daniel November 7, 2025

it works! I've had a hard time finding something to read the MS Pro Duo (mark 1) card from my Sony Cybershot, but this did the trick. however, it feels cheap and light, easy to knock around.

It destroyed photos

EugeneB November 6, 2013

I inserted my memory card to view the contents, some pictures of a class reunion, and it showed a bunch of flower icons and a message that it couldn't show the pictures or the files were corrupt. I will never be able to see those irreplaceable photos.

Looks good, Windows 7 won't recognize it!

jameszr1 May 7, 2012

I've had very poor results with this reader. When you plug it in, windows can't identify what it is. It is shown under device manager but not under the usb list. It shows up there as a ? Unless you love talking to customer service...get something else. This is a pathetic reader.

Worked but the design leaves a lot to be desired

Magicmanmark May 25, 2012

The function of the unit is fine (only used it to test it out) but the design leaves a lot to be desired. 1. The cord comes out of the bottom of the unit which means the unit will be on your desk upside down or the cord will be running around the unit to the back of your desk or computer. 2. The cord is unbelievably short (about 16" total to the tip of the plug) which would be fine if your USB port is on top of your computer but not long enough if it's midway or at the bottom especially if you have no ports on the front of your computer (I had to use an extension). 3. Assuming you have the box in the upright position (PNY at the top) the USB plugs go in right side up but the memory cards go in upside down, why on earth couldn't they have all the connections plug in with the proper side facing up (a little common sense in design goes a long way)? 4. It can only read one memory card at a time (but CAN read more than one USB flash drive at a time). I ended up buying a IOGEAR GUH286 5-port USB 2.0 Combo Hub & 56-in-1 Card Reader from Buy dot com, we'll see how that one is when it arrives, at least the cord exits the back of the box not the front. The PNY is going back to Walmart not because it doesn't function but the design is terrible in my opinion. (AND the price I paid in store was $19.99 and it's only $13.88 if you buy online and pick up in store. Another good reason to return the PNY.)

Just purchased this in store

Millkr January 16, 2016

Just got home about 10 minutes ago after purchasing this item in store for $20.00. Tried it on my laptop with Windows 8.1. It couldn't recognize the reader, so I noticed that the package said it was compatible with Windows 7. I plugged it into my desktop and it wouldn't recognize it on that computer either. I'm headed back to the store to return it. What a waste of time and money.
