I was a little skeptical at first when considering this purchase. I have two other pressure cookers that are bulky and hard to clean. The measurements given on the website showed this one to be just about the same size as the ones I have but the quart measurements were smaller. Due to the fact that it was inexpensive I decided to take a chance. This one definitely is smaller. It's an excellent size. It has an 8" diameter and is 5" deep. We are a family of three and it's perfect. Easily fits in the sink for hand washing. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.
Since the manual states " do not fill up more than half way", this size pot is so practical and can be used everyday for all sorts of meals types. The alumin is thick enough to cook evenly and the pot and parts are easy to clean, all that is needed is soapy warm water.
My Mom has had a pressure cooker all my life (I'm 60, she's 91) but the gaskets go bad. I had been looking for a 2.5 qt, but those do not seem to be made any more. This one (4 qt) is better anyway! It is a bit SMALLER in diameter, but deeper, than the old one. It is big enough for what we want to cook without being so heavy my Mom can't lift it. Compared to the old one it DOES seem much less durable, especially the rack. I think this one will give us years of cooking broccoli, carrots, stew... Delivery was earlier than stated by about a week.
Our old cooker was probably 60 years old. It still works but had trouble finding new gasket ring for it. And when we saw some online that might work, it was cheaper to get a new cooker. Love the way the gasket just slips into the lid so easy. It can be taken out fast and makes the lid easier to keep clean.
I have used this pressure cooker several times since I purchased it. It works great. Just follow the directions and you can't go wrong. I will say that the quality of workmanship has a some to be desired. I have an old Presto that is 30 years old. It would work fine if I had a new gasket. The quality is much higher and it is built a lot heavier. Of course it is made in the USA and the new one is made, where else, China.
Seems to be durable and everything fit well. I tried it out 1st on an Aroma single burner hot plate which I use for camping and it took roughly 15 minutes for it to pressurize. It will take a bit of experimenting with the time to cook foods as I just use the cooking times listed in the included recipe booklet as a guide. For example, I tried the beef roast and it said to cook it for 45 minutes, which I did and it turned out over cooked (tough) I think 30 - 35 minutes would have been enough time. Other than that, seems to be a great little cooker for home and camping. One pot meals ans one pot clean ups. Like everything else, the more you use it, the easier it becomes. Can't beat it for the money invested
Presto makes a good product. I have had an 8 quart pressure cooker for years, but wanted a smaller size. For the price, I elected to get the alumimun model. I have had very good results. The smaller size allows for a fast clean-up. It allows you to take advantage of less expenive cuts of meat to quickly create tender, tasty meals.
I already own a Presto 6-quart pressure cooker for several years and had no issues with it. So, when I was looking for a smaller cooker, I didn't hesitate to buy this 4-quart cooker from Presto. It met all my expectations. The assembly is really easy, and once that's done, it is ready for use. But make sure that you wash it thoroughly. I felt as is there was some sort of grease (petroleum jelly like) on the lid. I had to wash it couple of times, dry it out before I started using it. If you are not familiar with the functioning of pressure cooker in general, take time to read the manual supplied.
I like the look of this pressure cooker. I like making soups in it, but also cooking a chicken or corned beef brisket.I prefer cooking food in it rather than in a slow cooker.
I have a 50 year old Mirro 4 Qt pressure cooker that I love, however the ring for them is hard to find and expensive. Since the rings for Presto cooker are readily available, I decided to buy this one. I like the looks of this one but haven't used it yet.
