After my last brown sugar container decided to spontaneously explode (still not sure what happened there), I switched to this Progressive keeper and couldn't be happier. It does exactly what it's supposed to do: keeps brown sugar soft and clump-free. The terra cotta disc works great, and the seal is solid. Most importantly, it has remained fully intact on my counter with zero signs of imminent detonation. Highly recommend for anyone looking for reliable, explosion-free sugar storage.
Stores powdered and sugar items wonderfully. The stone disc absorbs to moisture to keep it away from the stored item. A little on the expensive side but, worth it in the long run,
The brown sugar keeper was an exact match to the previous one my wife purchased several years ago. And, the container arrived in time for a last minute Christmas gift.
I was looking for a container specifically designed for brown sugar. As most of you know it has a tendency to turn into a rock hard block. I didn't know that a ceramic addition would solve the problem so that along with the airtight container I am in business.
The very old Tupperware container I used for keeping brown sugar soft, cracked. So I was looking for a container small enough to be easily stored but big enough to hold 2 pounds of brown sugar. The size of this container is such that it is not hard to find a convenient spot for it and the addition of the terra cotta insert was a definite plus. Now I've only had this container for a short time, so I can only hope that the long-term results are as good as the short-term results! The sugar I placed in this container was lumpy with many very hard and solid clumps of brown sugar. Some were like rocks! I soaked the terra cotta insert as directed and then decided to just attach it back in the lid, instead of placing it on or in the sugar, as directed. I waited a day or so and checked. Sure enough, the brown sugar had softened completely. I don't think there was one hard clump! I have used the sugar a couple times since and it has remained soft. I can't speak for long term use or how well the container itself will last, but it's not a huge investment and so far I'm very pleased with it.
This works beautifully to keep my brown sugar from going hard. Easy open design lets me scoop out what I need very easily.
I cannot give a review of this product because I am unable to use it. The item was delivered not in a protective box but simply dropped into a large bubble-lined envelope, with no packing materials to keep it from shipping damage. As a result, the envelope was crushed in transit, and the bottom of the item was badly cracked. I returned the package to my local WalMart for exchange, but they did not have them in the store so only gave me a WalMart gift card in the amount of the purchase, minus the shipping charges. I have since ordered the item from another source, and it arrived in perfect condition. It seems to be just what I was looking for.
It's fine.. Nothing wrong with it. It's just way smaller than what I thought I was getting. The specs say 1.5 gallon... It's not even a half gallon.
It holds the brown sugar that is pretty much all I can say about it. The sugar gets hard anyway even with the disk in it. I would say after you have soaked the disk by the next day it is getting hard. I will use up the remaining sugar I have in it now then go back to the way my husband says they have always kept brown sugar and put it in the freezer.
Came with no directions especially for handling and removing the disc. Do I soak it? Do I replace it under the lid or do I add to the brown sugar? Is this dishwasher safe?
