I purchased my first Rubbermaid Horizontal Storage shed 20 years ago to store chlorine tabs and other pool chemicals. After years of Florida sun and weather, including hurricanes, the lid hinges failed. I found the same item at Walmart at the best price (considerable more than it was in ****) and shipping rate.
I ordered this box for extra storage outside as I have an older one just like it that I have had at least 11 years and it still is in great shape and doing it's job well. They were easy to put together and have ample space for several items. My older one has held a full sized electric lawn mower with some fold up chairs, later a large compressor and now two snow tires and cushions from our porch swing. It has never leaked and continues to look good. I recommend this particular unit for outside storage as it holds up well and has a lot of room inside plus you can put a padlock on it if desired. Granted the locking mechanism lets the lid lift several inches before stopping but as with anything, if someone really wanted to open it, they could.
I got this the day before the 2013 blizzard and was eager to set it up to store my generator next to my house where we have a generator switch connection. I went tearing through the box and could not find directions. Without directions, I was able to set it up in about 5 minutes. I found the directions under the last panel! It served well during the Blizzard and I look forward to having it around going forward.
No tools required -- with the exception of two taps with a rubber mallet and it was completely assembled as stated on packaging in fifteen minutes. Looks great, and the shelf is an added bonus!
I did loads of homework and found this unit the best choice for me. It arrived at the store and I was able to fit in my small SUV. Assembly was less than 10 minutes. Its a good buy.
... sturdy storage container. However, we needed to return this due to it not holding as much as we anticipated. We did note the measurements before buying, however we need something larger and with a different opening setup for the area we're working with. This item comes with a removable particle board shelf, which is a nice feature. However, the one shipped with ours had a large piece missing (approx 8 in x 4 in). Another feature on this item is that there are optional lid support bars. These stick often when you go to close the lid. One thing to keep in mind, with this design you must open the lid before you open the front panels. Also you must open the left lid door in order to open the right. the hasp on top is a nice feature, though usage is mainly for keeping bin closed. Since hasp is plastic it really isn't a anti-theft feature. Overall my opinion is that the Rubbermaid item was as good if not better quality than the Suncast brand of items. Still, its rather horrendously expensive for a big hunk of molded plastic.
I was very excited at first to find something that would help me with my limited storage space, but unfortunately the pieces keep loosening and it falls apart very easily even when you don't overstuff it. I thought I was getting a sturdy item because it was made by Rubbermaid.
I wanted a Rubbermaid storage shed after purchasing one about 10 years ago. It was fantastic. This one was spendy, so I thought it would be the same quality. It does not close well and has significant openings around all the edges. It was simple to assemble and required a little force to snap the pieces together. The instructions say that it must be on a flat surface...concrete flat would be the best place. Count me as disappointed.
I assembled the shed last week. Assembly took almost 2 hours because the parts were molded so poorly. This replaced an identical shed the lasted over 20 years. The new shed is made of much thinner plastic and the bottom already has stress cracks from standing in it attempting to complete the assembly. No where in the instructions does it say not to stand on the bottom. This shed is very poorly made.
I am returning product back to the store, all items were not in the box and the product does not snap together like it should...............Pieces dont match up
