Sailor Moon Season 1 Part 1 [DVD]

This is how Sailor Moon SHOULD have debuted in the US! The voice actors are new and improved (though I do miss the matronly tone of Luna) and it has the original Japanese theme song + Japanese names. It has all the nostalgia without the terrible voice acting and annoying 90s phrases (Hunk-mister....SERIOUSLY?!). Would highly recommend this product to any true fan.

Great DVD set! English dub is great. Got it to watch with my 5 and 8 year old daughters, they love it! The price was also a plus, compared to other retailers this was the best price. Highly recommend it.

This re-release of the episodes has all you could ever want from the DVD's that the old '90's English version never gave us in Canada. I really enjoy watching in the original Japanese with English subtitles, but the English version is really well done without the "slang" of the '90's added in and is not extremely edited like it was back in the day. My only disappointment with ordering online was that the outer "box" was not included. I ordered Season 1 Parts 1 & 2 and Season 2 Part 1 (I already found Season 2 Part 2 in stores and it had the outer box on it), and each of them came without the box. So even though the picture online shows the DVD with the box, you only get the inner DVD case portion with a slightly different layout on the front. But if that doesn't bother you, then this is the collection for you! Highly recommend this series.

I'm actually only writing this review in response to those people. There is, in fact, evidence on the item description page that explains it's not the 90's DiC dub, and that evidence is the mere fact that they refer to the name Usagi Tsukino in the summary of the box set. DiC referred to the main character as Serena, not Usagi, so this clearly wouldn't be that same dub. Well, I suppose I can review the product itself now, but only based on Viz Media clips I've seen on Youtube. From what I can tell, this new dub is 99% accurate compared to the original Japanese script, which is pretty outstanding. The voices are entertaining and enthusiastic (even if they don't sound the same as the 90's voices, but the only two that have really impacted me due to their difference are Lita/Mako's and Luna's). I personally believe that anyone who views this product with both an open mind and with a mild expectation of it emulating the source anime from Japan will end up highly impressed and appeased!

WOW if you're a Sailor Moon fan then this is a must buy set. I loved watching these when I was a kid and I can watch them all over again. The quality is good and the English dub is great. The only thing that was different for me was that they use the Japanese names in this series instead of the American names (Usagi-Serena ).

I was so excited when I saw this DVD set at my local Walmart store! I have been waiting sooo long for the redub to release. I'm glad they finally did! I bought it in a heartbeat! This redub version is soooo much better, than the vague DiC version. The DiC was too "kid friendly" and "sugar coated" for the younger audiences. THIS version, however, is more authentic and "true" to the actual Sailor Moon Japanese version. The opening song is soooo much better than the DiC version, whereas, the DiC version was more of an "anthem". The original Japanese intro song is more melodious. ...And, I'm glad that they included the deleted episodes that weren't featured in the DiC version. THANK YOU Viz Media, for reliving one of my favourite childhood animes! I can't wait for the second DVD set to release! Buying it ASAP!

This is NOT a re-dub. This is the version that is more true to the original Japanese version. DiC bought the rights to season 1 and 2 in North America in the 90's, and they cut out a LOT of material. 6 entire episodes were cut out, and the season 1 finale was originally a 2 episode deal, but DiC cut out so much that it ended up being a very butchered single episode that jumped around so much that it didn't fully even make sense. They also added the "Sailor Moon Says" part at the end of the episodes to fill in time because of the actual content that they cut out of the show. They even showed many spoiler alerts in the opening theme that they re-recorded, including the final fight of the entire season from the finale. I am so happy that Viz bought the rights to these and released them in the way that they were meant to be seen... and my 6 year old daughter loves these too!

Great box set, I gave it as a gift and my sister was very pleased.

Ok so the package is everything but the voice actors are not the original voice actors in the English dub the words are changed. And I'm a mega fan of sailor moon but……. I will not consider buying this version just buy the blue ray one
