The 990Pro M.2 SSD provides strong performance, rock solid reliability, and excellent supporting software (Samsung Magician) that takes the guesswork out of performance tuning, overprovisioning, and other techy tasks that help you extend the life of your drive and wring every bit of performance from it.

Samsung 990 versus Crucial T705, where it is best.

Michael January 31, 2026

This is a very good hard drive for those computers that are still PCIe 4. It is a speedy little devil. However, if you have a PCIe 5 motherboard, you want the faster Crucial T705. I have one in the computer on which I am now typing. It boots into windows after post in 3 seconds now. I ran some comparisons with the 990 and the T705 just blows it away. However, you cannot use the T705 in a PCIe 4 computer or motherboard. It will work but just run at the 990 speed. Again, I am not bad mouthing this Samsung drive, it works just great in a PCIe 4 computer. I have multiple slots in my motherboard for NVME drives. I fill them with the 990. I use the T705 for my system drive and two of the 990s as cloned backups. If something blows my system drive, I can simply boot from one of the 990s and try to clone that 990 to the Crucial drive to repair it, If it can be repaired. You can tell I am paranoid about my system drive going to the black screen of death.

Lightning fast

Richard August 4, 2024

I have been big into computers for about 10 years. Let me tell you when I say technology has changed so much. Don’t even bother messing with other m.2s this thing is stupid fast. I can actually use my one gig internet to its full potential! This thing is stupid fast and I didn’t realize how bad other m.2s were until I got this bad boy. I promise it’s worth the money and will be one of the best upgrades you ever make!

I was looking for a storage upgrade and decided to get this drive on sale. I added a thermal pad and heat sink to make sure heat was conducted away from the drive to improve longevity. Tried installing several hundred gigabytes of games with no issues. Very fast read/write speeds.

Product didn't work at all.

Robert August 20, 2025

I can't even find it in my bios. It's not working at all. I re-checked the connection and everything looks good, but I'm not much of a tech guy so it might be my fault.
