working good
A dash cam is handy to have as an every day driver but essential for business vehicles. This one was super easy to install and use. The suction cup has a strong grip so the camera stays in place. Simple plug in and you're ready to go. The image quality is high and clear. The two facing cameras allow you to record what's in front of you plus inside your vehicle. It even works for night driving.
Camera comes with a small instruction manual with directions to contact the company directly with any issues, and not the store. Set up is fairly easy. There are different ways to route the power to your 12v socket. Suction cup seems to be sufficient. Only the extreme heat will tell. Picture is clear, and enables rear and front view. Footage can be downloaded to your PC with USB included.
The camera at 4 inches does not take up to much space on your windshield so it isn't blocking your view at all. Easy to install with a suction cup and you can remove at anytime without any issues. The cord is also long enough to reach the charger. So, I have it connected to the vehicle and it will turn on by itself when I turn on the vehicle and also shut down when I turn off the vehicle. It will automatically start recording and I set it up to record for 10 minutes at a time ,but you can do it for less than that. I have tried it several ways and found that the night time videos are not very impressive. The videos are stable as far as it is being stable and not shaking which is great. If driving at night you would be completely in the dark when it is facing the rear view unless you are under, pass a street light, or you have your vehicle lights on inside. In the rear facing view, the video will be footage of the inside of your vehicle. Maybe some of the outside will be captured as you pass buildings and vehicles because the camera is a 120 degree wide angle lens, but not clear enough to see license plates, for example. Perhaps if you're in an accident you will have footage from inside the vehicle and a some of the sides. Again it isn't much help as far as seeing details. I was not impressed by the night time footage. Much more blurry and the video looks grainy when playing back on the computer. I noticed the street lights seem to cause the forward facing camera to focus on the light and the footage becomes brighter at that moment. The forward facing camera is much better during the day time. It is clear enough that you can see the models and type of vehicles clearly in your front and side view. License plates can not be seen clearly when driving which is disappointing unless you are stopped feet away at a light or stop sign ,for example. The sound is not that great as well. I can hear what I am saying in the videos , but it is not super loud and I had my computer at 100% to listen clearly. The menu was easy for me to use. The button is on the side where you can easily change the settings either up, down, okay , menu and power button. A 16GB Memory card is included which is great and you dont have to worry about buying one. It is easy to check the footage on the memory card by connecting it to the computer. Simply connect and search the files and play them. The date and time appears on the video corner. It is a decent beginner dash camera, but could use some improvements especially for the night time videos. However, I will continue to change and figure out settings to see if I can get better night time footage.
I was wavering back and forth on whether or not to recommend this camera. I finally settled on Yes, but just barely. It is not a great camera by any means. But it is adequate for what you should expect at the price point. First off, the resolution. It says 1080p, but I'm not so sure about that. Sure, it will show if someone cut in front of you and stopped short in an insurance scam. But don't expect much detail or to get a clear shot of a license plate in a hit and run. It also cuts off just seconds after it loses power. I realize this is a battery thing, but it would be nice to have SOME battery to at least give you a couple minutes after an accident. Sometimes what happens after you get out of your car needs to be recorded too. The instructions are lacking, to be generous. It appears this can be used as a web cam as well, but I'll be darned if the instructions mention it. But, like I said, someone looking in this price range probably isn't expecting much, and it will deliver on those low expectations once you get used to it. But if you are often in situations where you feel you need video documentation of your drives, you would most definitely want to spend a little more to get a lot more.
I got mine mid march and 4 months later I'm already contacting support. Right out of the box, I had issues. The instructions weren't clear and included features unlisted. The battery doesn't hold a charge. The camera shuts down and doesn't save the last video when the car turns off, I'm assuming because the battery doesn't work. Now that it's 4 months old, the rear camera night vision is messed up. the very left you have a large chunk that's normal then it cuts off to total black the rest of the screen and it randomly powers off and on while driving. I checked connections and everything is tight. Waiting to see if I get an email back from their warranty. If not, I'm glad I paid for the extended protection plan. Kinda wish I bought the cheap generic brand now.
I had high hopes for this dash cam. I was excited to use it, all the way up until I went back to watch the footage. The front facing camera does do 1080p as advertised, and it looks pretty good. But, the inside facing camera can only do 480, not the advertised 720p. That is a huge difference in quality. As for the audio, it's nice that both cameras record the audio, but the quality is hard to understand. It sounds like it's picking up the shaking from the car. Other things to take note of is that the instruction manual list a whole bunch of features that the camera doesn't actually have in them. Also, the 12v power adapter works great, while the usb connection randomly disconnects. This creates a problem since it seems that there is no internal battery to charge.
I was excited to receive this camera but that excitement quickly turned to disappointment. At first glance it seems perfect but it's when you turn it on and try to figure it out that everything goes terribly wrong. The menu buttons on the side of the camera are rotated 90° counterclockwise the wrong way from what feels natural. If you're holding it in the upright position looking at the screen, the down arrow is towards you and the up arrow is away from you. The instructions are a poor translation into English and make little sense. There are features that are listed in the user manual that are not on the camera itself. The settings in the menu make no sense at all and the instructions don't do anything to help you understand them. There are errors in the text in the software. it seems like the quality control department was on vacation when they let this camera through to manufacturing. Completely unexcusable. While it does take good video and audio, the problems just don't justify purchasing this. I tried calling the company and was not given an answer and then was put on hold for 20 minutes so I hung up. Customer service had no idea what I was asking about. The camera is supposed to stay on, if you change the setting, after you turn the car off. When you shut the car off a screen comes up and it says exactly "hutdown after 10 second". YES it actually says HUTDOWN. No matter what I did I could not get the camera to remain on for a set time after car is shut off. There is an internal battery that will never completely charge. There are just so many problems with this dash cam that I suggest you stay away. On the plus side it does come with a SD card, but still not worth purchasing. I would expect better from Scosche. Have been using their products for a LONG time. Disappointed.
I have purchased this dash cam and have to say it does its job except that the files do overwrite each other and when I attempt to access the files on the computer, the card is corrupt.
after it was open and charged my son hooked it up in his car and soon as he turned it on it said low battery after being on chatger over night.
