The Sculpey Clay Conditioner has been really helpful in smoothing out lines and wrinkles and getting the same thickness for multiple pieces
Good quality and excellent price for my items
I'm so glad I ordered this when I ordered my Premo (and Ultra Light) Sculpey clays! Premo is incredibly firm; you need to spend a lot of time conditioning it before it's workable. Doing it by hand is very difficult. This machine made it a breeze. Also, with Sculpey Ultra Light, I got nice evenly thick strips of clay. It makes baking the model so much faster since everything's nice and even.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this clay conditioning machine because it had the same amount of settings as my old one.Upon arrival however I discovered the thickest setting and all others are much thinner than my old machine so this is going to be quite an adjustment.
I purchased mine to replace an almost 30 year old Atlas. While the Sculpey machine gets the job done, the cranking is NOT smooth, but grating, and it sends shivers up my spine. I'm keeping it as a back-up, but went back to my old Atlas for daily use. The price is a lot less than the Atlas machines, which was nice, but I guess you get what you pay for.
This machine does have a vice so it can be fixed on certain tables. We have an ornate table which is too thick to use the vice. I have to hook it to a smaller desk that we have which makes it awkward to use. Plus the vice can only be used on one side of the machine which is right below the crank. It makes it awkward to turn sometimes. It also leaves "ribbed" edges in the clay and has to be run through several times to correct. It seems well made and it has a pretty good heft to it. It is not enough to keep it from moving as you crank though. Also the crank is long so it has to be positioned over the side of the table otherwise you'll crank it right into the table. I'm kind of in the fence with this if you couldn't tell. I may keep it. I may not.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Gears are not great. Disassembled for lubrication. Reassembling was a massive chore. Works fine now but i wish maintenance was easier.
I bought the Sculpey clay conditioning machine a couple months ago .. after a week or two of using it it was getting harder and harder to roll my clay .. now I can barley turn the handle.. it worked great in the beginning now it's not. I'm not sure if I messed it up some how or if it broke on me… it's hard for me to crank and the rollers leave marks on the clay But I love the Sculpey premo clay!!
It does the job, but the machine feels cheap, the gears grind as if from misalignment and it squeaks a LOT. The embossing for the pasta size is poorly done and is hard to read.
After short time using, the crank was hard to turn. My daughter has an old Sculpey conditioner that works well after many years. The metal inside of the crank is inferior and strips. I sprayed some WD40 into the crank shaft which helped it turn. I'd rather pay a higher price for better quality that lasts.
