This safe is really nice, quite sturdy. My only complaint is that it's so heavy and there are no handholds so you have to pick it up from the bottom and it can be quite cumbersome. I ended up getting a small hand cart that I could use with it and just wheel it into my closet and wheel it out when I need it. I have arthritis in my hands so there's no way I could pick this up and bring it into another room to use. With that said, I'm still very happy with this safe because I'm able to put all of my files in it, giving me peace of mind, knowing my important papers are going to be protected
The Century safe fire safe document box does just what it says on the label. It securely stores, documents, files, and computer drives. Well small and compact, it's also heavy, sturdy, and durable. This is perfect for my office safe. I am grateful to have access to purchase this product through walmart.com because buying from our local office supply store would cost over $200 more for the same product.
This safe is just what I was looking for to organize and protect our important documents. However, with no handles, it is very awkward to move around. It also has a couple of defects: 1. The plastic cover is cracked. 2. It dumps white powder into the compartment and storage surface.
Social worker insisted we put all legal papers in safety deposit box. But everytime I need one it's a trip to the bank. At 42 lb. I could put this on a rolling tray to move in/out of closet. This was one fee vs high annual fee to bank. The hanging file style lets us color code & label papers yet they are protected.
The box came with no protective foam or anything. Just safe and box. There was dust from internal composition that was inside the box. Probably from being dropped and box thrown around. Also why would you put a plastic latch. The lid of safe is already hard to push down. Probably from dropping shipment. And the latch is difficult to close. This plastic latch could easily break. I am thinking of returning to store and going with a different name brand.
Hefty but fragile. Big, strong, fireproof, but the lid fell off the second time I opened it. I think it would still work for fireproof, but not for security.
The first day I got this safe home I started to fill it. I left the lid up overnight and came back in the morning to find the entire lid broke through the material/hinge and fell off. This safe broke under its own weight on the first day.
Item was delivered next day, item box was half way opened, safe box had dust on top, straps were out of plastic covering, No Lock Key enclosed!! Associate traced item from local Walmart store, It was an old used item. If the key was placed or taped inside the safe, it would not have been requested for return and full refund. Item has high rating
The safe was fine for the first three months after purchase, the hinges on the back started to fail at that point and after the fourth month the lid simply separated from the base.
Just purchased the other day and it's going back. It previously had good reviews in general. When I unboxed it, it had white streaks all over the outside and I assumed someone else had returned it before. But the manufacture date on label was 6-21-21 and the original tape was undisturbed, so not sure. Checked that the keys worked ok, and because I didn't want to lug it back to WM, I cleaned it up (not all came off w/409) and discovered the 2 straps that hold docs/CDs under the lid aren't correct (rectangular plastic ends on straps to clip onto the plastic lid protuberances which are molded straight sided on one side (slippery--nothing to hold clip on and the other side angles in instead of out (nothing to hold clip on)--it all seems like two different systems. Ok, so I can't store stuff on the lid. Put in hanging folders, added docs, but now the lid doesn't shut. Take all the hanging folders out and simply throw everything inside in a pile. Lid won't shut, can't force the flimsy plastic latch to close, can't lock it. In a fire, that plastic latch will easily melt, so doesn't seem fireproof to me. Something went wrong during manufacturing -- poor design and materials.
