For the price, it is hard to beat. I would buy the reel again.

Bought it for my older grandson's birthday and he really loves it. It was a bit difficult to get it onto the fishing pole (also made by the same company), but after we got it on, it works wonderfully! I don't fish, but he does and he loves it. That's all I care about!

I have two of these matched up with UglyStik 5ft. No problems

Don't base your decision on the reviews you see here. Every mass produced product has a lemon. If you take care of this reel it will serve you well. Remember this is a $20 reel. I actually opened it up to find metal gears. I use this reel for fresh and saltwater fishing. I have been using it for 4 months of constant fishing. I have to say that this reel and my name brand feel the same. Drag is smooth. If you are on budget or just want a reel to learn spinning reel techniques on, this is a good choice. But be careful, you may find this to be your go to reel.

I've cracked open safes that were easier to open than the packaging this reel came in.
