Looks like a good unit similar to others I have used over the years. Everything you need is there. The wires are a couple of feet long, so easy to connect. I can't tell how long it will last, but it looks good.

Saving money on marine products

Wingnutman August 16, 2014

When you own a marine toy it sometimes come with a big bill. Not this! Try getting one of these at your local marine store for the price that I paid thru Walmart. The going price for one of these is $35 to $40 each and I paid almost $11 each for them at Walmart. Your first try should always be Walmart. I appreciate the savings and means I can put more gas in the boat.

1oo% reliable IF! you do these, otherwise not reliable at all. A) remove the 2 tabs on the float B) mounting instructions; 1. mount facing aft. 2. mount on flat/ horizontal surface 3. mount at least 1/2" above the pump keep all wire conections up as high as possible. (don't just let the wires sit in the bilge) and make the connections waterproof.

Good as Any

As far as I can tell, it's as good as any on the market.

I think the float switch is of good quality but some sort or cage around the float might prevent loose debris from preventing normal operation

I bought this float switch to use to turn on a bilge pump that I use as a sump pump under the house. The design seems to allow it to be submerged in the water to be pumped but the water under my house is very muddy and full of silt so I have had to design a perch for the switch to keep the wires entering the switch out of the water while allowing the pump to run at its most efficient submersion level. The switch uses what sounds like a ball or roller to turn on and off based upon it's orientation to horizontal. It seems clunky and not a smooth transition from an open switch to a closed position. I haven't finished building the perch so don't have a real time experience yet. I hope it works as I intended.

Bilge

anonymous August 6, 2025

The electrical connection instructions were not sufficient enough for me to be able to use this with my current Bill prop

Not the best

Be sure to note that this float uses a ball trigger system that will only engage when the float reaches a high enough level to tip; causing the ball to touch the points and close the circuit. Sounds great... But it doesn't actually engage until there's about 2inches of water in the bilge... My boat has a very large bilge area. This means my boat would take on a SUBSTAINTAIL amount of water before this switch engages... THEN it also disengages when only 10% of the water is pumped out. If you have a small bilge area this may be perfect for you. But in a bilge area that houses a 351 Windsor... Not ideal.
