I mean, it's a cult classic. We're not gonna pretend that the creators intentionally made a one hundred million dollar flop. It's endlessly entertaining though and the sets are fantastic. It's also a hilarious staple of bad movie nights. Hopefully this goes without saying but it's one of the most NOT family friendly movies in existence and TW for extreme sexual assault. Those things aside, everyone should witness the absurdity of showgirls at least once in their lives.

I understand why it's a cult classic. I don't know why people hated it so much when it came out. Was it intended to be a drama or a comedy? As drama it fails, but as a comedy it's a masterpiece. lol the overacting. The dialogue, the almost impossible athleticism of the dancing all make the film a wonder cult classic. It's a hard one to watch at home with family around at any age because there's nudity in almost every frame. I'm afraid neighbors would walk by and look in the window to see ‘Showgirls' playing. So draw the drapes if you must. The only thing that disappointed me was that Nomi's backstory really was that lurid. Throughout the whole film, I was thinking, “What is she hiding? I mean she's a showgirl, so it's gotta be pretty bad, right.” But no… it was just prostitution and drug possession, which is basically what we already know about her because she does that stuff anyway throughout the movie. The movie is an X-rated version of ‘All About Eve', which is a masterpiece, by the way. But it's not as well acted as ‘All About Eve'. The flaws in ‘Showgirls' are what make it so endearing. It bad , but watchable. Look at the film through a comedic lens rather than a dramatic lens.
