Exactly what I needed. The light panel definitely keeps me from digging in too hard while sanding. The dust container works but there is still some dust in the air and the container needs a lot of shaking to empty. I'll probably hook up my vac. Much better than what I had been using.
I've had a black and decker for years but needed a second orbital sander for a big project and bought this one. I can't praise it highly enough. It's very comfortable to hold and sucks up the sawdust like a vacuum. My black and decker leaves a mess of sawdust behind, this one leaves the surface clean. Compared to my black and decker this is heaven to hold. That one vibrates so much after an hour of use my hand is numb. This one has a handle set a bit higher on the tool so your hand isn't right on the motor which keeps you from feeling it as much. It also has rubbery grips which make it a little more comfy in the hand, and unlike most of these orbital sanders I've used the ventilation for the motor isn't in the handle right where you hold it, so the handle doesn't get hot. That really makes your hand happy after hours of sanding in the summer heat. A hot handle feels much worse. The filter is great, easy to empty, clear so you can see it's full. Best orbital sander ever. I came on to Walmart.com looking for this sander at a store 40 minutes away because it's sold out locally. After using this sander neither I nor my friend who's helping with the project want to use my black and decker. Until using this one we both thought the older one was just fine. I had no intention of leaving a review until I saw the negative one someone else left for this excellent sander. If it was leaving sawdust everywhere either he didn't have the holes lined up one the sanding pad or he had a defective sander. Try this sander, you'll be impressed.
Through the years, I've owned a lot of sanders. This little guy is the best one I've come across. It is super-easy to use, even a child could use it. Just slap one of those round sandpapers on the bottom of it and away you go! I don't know what the negative review here is talking about. Perhaps that guy just got a lemon. I always say that when life give you lemons, grab the tequila! Seriously, just return it and get another one that works correctly. You'll be happy that you did.
This was a gift for my grandson and he was very happy whe he opened it up Xmas morning
I am building a cedar strip canoe and needed a good orbital sander for the job. The Skil sander has a rubber guard around the edge which is a great added feature to prevent bangs on the thin wood strips at the bow and stern. It is so easy to take off a used disc and change to a new one. I sand down old steel bicycle frames too. I have several other types of sanders, but this is a terrific new tool for my use!
Once again I must say that Skil delivers great quality and value at a price that is easily accessible to anyone. Consistently, it seems to me that many far more expensive tools do not perform significantly better than the equivalent Skil tool. I so far own two of them and plan to buy more in the future.
Hey folks as an amateur wood worker I would heartily recommend this tool. I enjoy building different arts and crafts and had acquired some extremely rough cedar planks. This tool enabled me to sand these planks to a finish that was extremely professional looking and in turn I was able to build some beautiful cedar jewelery boxes for my wife and daughters. Thank you Harold
I have made good progress with this sander, and would recommend to anyone, especially a first-timer like me. My only issue is finding the 8 hole replacement pads. My local home improvement stores (yes, the 2 big ones), did not carry them, just Diablo brand where you line-up 2 holes...Disappointed SKIL did not include a parts-list to order with in the box, all that was there was just a survey and instructions...Also, with only little use, I have noticed the black silicon o-ring where the dust canister screws on is starting to stretch and will soon break. Not sure it is really needed, will soon find out..If it's not needed for a good seal, why did they bother with it?? Also, don't see any options anywhere to buy a replacement filter cannister, but have just been emptying out this one each time after use, but one day will get too clogged. The instructions just say keep on cleaning it, but one day it will get too clogged and the filter will need to be replaced..Overall, a good unit, light but powerful, and easy to hold when working on walls and ceilings while on a ladder.... kas. The unit is lightweight but powerful,.. woulbe too clogged thol
Great Sander. Only downfall is I can not find a replacement backing pad for it
This tool was a let down. After using it for just a handful of projects, the hook and loop pad was nonfunctional, not holding brand new sandpaper discs in place. Even when the pad was perfectly clean, the sandpaper discs went flying off. Pretty bummed about this purchase.
