I soak about 3 tablespoons of this in a large bowl of water then pour into a 10 inch pot half full of potting mix, then place my plant and fill in with potting mix. Keeps plant moist and alive through wicked heat spells. Very impressed.
Bought this large size to help with new shrubs. Helps to slowly release water to the roots. I add some to all containers and directly into the soil for garden plants. I have used this product for years! I love it.
Pleased with the ease of picking up the order.
I especially like using Soil Moist outdoors in flower boxes and hanging baskets. When we have a dry spell, it keeps the containers from parching. It's like little plastic pellets in the jar and it swells to a Jello-like substance when it's wet. I've also seen it used in jars without soil. I'm sold on it.
This product has made it possible for me to grow beautiful flowers in containers on my sunny deck. While I try to keep containers on drip irrigation, some are too far from the water source to do this. Soil Moist to the rescue. I now include it in EVERY container. I've taken a 2-week trip in mid -summer and only asked my neighbor to water once. So she is also a fan.
I have bought Soil Moist for many years. You add just a teaspoon into a planter or house plant and it is unbelievable how it helps to retain the moisture. Especially if you forget to water. Its a miracle in a teeny granule. Just dont spill it outside like I did. When it rained they blew up into huge jelly like blobs...yuk. I am disappointed however that I no longer can buy this in the garden center at WalMart, but only online. That's an added inconvenience.
These work really well for plants when you are gone for an extended period of time and don't want them to get dry. Also good for some craft projects.
Critical for new gardens, where you want to work in where it will rest at the root zone helping soil structure to develop. Do not top dress with this product -- turns into weird jelly that grows stuff you may not want. Buying the large size makes economic sense -- it doesn't go bad over time. Just keep it dry.
These work great. I use 1 oz per 5 gal pot for tomatoes and I literally only need to water twice a season. You can even till them into a ground garden and never have to worry about your plants drying out.
The package arrived leaking. The container inside was open a spilled the lid was off. the small granular were all over. After I cleaned everything up I had half a container. I could not figure out who to contact.
