Speak and Spell - The Original Spelling Computer

I received a Speak and Spell from Spark Reviewer in exchange for my honest opinion. As a kid, I had one of these and absolutely loved it. I'm glad to see some of our favorite toys come back so that our children and nieces and nephews can enjoy. My niece loves this. It teaches her how to spell words and it has a variety of activities on it. She play with it for hours.

This is great for kids 5 and up, voice is boring though. There are better spelling games around on ipads and phones. But I like the idea it doesn't work with wifi. There are different difficulty levels. And a great resource to keep your kid busy and entertained.

I received this item for the purpose of review. Received this little original spelling computer yesterday. We have a 2 year old grandson. He will LOVE this. Even if he just plunks on the buttons, we'll be very happy. Can't wait to see him spell CAT and DOG. It's just like the original I used to see back in the 70s/80s. I'm sooooo happy to see this type of thing making a comeback. Kids need to use something else besides phones to learn. Plus it just makes it more FUN for the children. It's a CLASSIC. Lets us get back to basics. This is a gift so we haven't given it to him yet. But cannot wait for him to see it. I would highly recommend for starting small toddlers out right. Thanks Walmart!!!

My 7 year old daughter loves this device! She loves to spell & this is a perfect mix of learning and fun. She also loves how it assists with pronunciation. This is a great starter tool to get your little ones off to a great start in the world of education!

This is a great fun way to teach anyone how to spell. So easy to use and easy to clean. Its sturdy has a flat surface and talks like the old one from the 70's 80's. Like a robot. It has 5 modes,( see photo) different word levels its for the ages 7 and up. Comes with 3 AA batteries included. Spelling word games and Challenge levels This will never go out of style. It's iconic electronic idea is great for the kids that love their electronics. And at the same time learning. Its just pretty cool. every kids or adult should have one.

Speak & Spell is back and it's just like I'd remembered...but that was a long time ago. It's one of the earliest computerized learning systems from the 70s & 80s, Speak & Spell was the first educational toy designed to help children learn to spell over 200 commonly misspelled words using a speech synthesizer. More like a robot and really outdated. There are a lot better programs on our tablet for spelling and learning. My 6 year old granddaughter was over it in about 5 minutes. It does have multiple play modes and challenge levels, but it was difficult for us to understand some of the words. Not flashy enough for kids today, I'm afraid. This says for ages 7 & up and that's probably about right. Includes 3 AA batteries. It is light weight and easly to carry. This Speak and Spell definitely has its limitations but might be good for some kids.

This seems to be useful and fun educational toy. It comes with batteries included which is a plus. I recommend this for kids who can already read some. There are a few different settings of play and you can challenge yourself to see if you can spell what it says. I don't think the kids will use this as much as their tablet or other means for looking up words but I think they'll play here and there. My 5 year old had no interest but 8 year old did.

The Speak and Spell - The Original Spelling Computer is a beginners spelling tablet. It's easy to use. It has the same voice when your asked to spell words. My children love to guess how to spell the words but they are times that you can't tell what word is being asked to spell as frustration kicks in and lose interest. They loved the fact it was in the ET movie and childhood memories are great but it should have added a softer voice so words are clearer. Besides that, material is sturdy and it comes with the list of words your asked to spell and levels of harder words as a challenge. Ages 7 and up. Great for practice.

Speak and spell original spelling computer is just what it states it is. I had one of these exact looking speak and does. The speak and spell has multi levels so you spell harder words and learn more words and their pronunciation. It simply has a keyboard type front with a small little box for you to see your finished word. My daughter does not play it long not something kids are superly excited to see nowadays. Could be nice for educational purposes !

Received from spark review This small and lightweight speak and spell offers a nice keyboard and few functions for learning the spelling of words. When we began to use the speak and spell, I realized I could not understand what the voice prompt was saying. A few words was not pronounced clearly and we got the answer wrong. The speak and spell does not record your voice after repeating the words. It prompts the user to spell the words and then it moves on to the next word. Do not recommend - small children will get frustrated not understanding the voice prompt which is not clear and unintelligible.
