Nice and Heavy and a Great Price

OldHippie116 April 11, 2018

The pliers are what I refer to as "heavy duty." I don't know the weight of the pliers, but when you pick them up, you can feel the weight of them. They remind me of the Stanley pliers I've had for more than 20 years. I've used the pliers to install a new shower head with an additional side shower head, and also to help put together a bathroom wall cabinet. For these projects the pliers worked great... now I'm just hoping they last years like my Stanley pliers. Are you ever upstairs or in the basement and you need a pair of pliers there but have none? That was me, as I had only my Stanley pliers. The 2 pliers I bought from Walmart, I put one in a bathroom drawer, and one on the main floor, in my kitchen junk drawer. Now when I'm in those rooms, I won't have to go outside to the shed to get my pliers.

I was shocked that Stanley pliers could be of such low quality. Except for the insulated handles I've seen better looking pliers in the dollar stores. Not only were the pliers not chromed but they are all pitted and the inner surfaces of the handles look like they were cast in very-well-used molds. The occlusion of the jaws is not terrible (the only reason it is getting 2 stars instead of one) but I would not call it good either.

Disappointing quality

Matt January 1, 2023

I love Stanley (and DeWalt) tools, but honestly I'm not sure how these pass any sort of testing procedure at the factory before being approved, and I say that even considering the price. The teeth aren't strong enough to really bite into anything you'll likely be using these on., and they'll slip on you constantly—the quality just isn't there. I've tried using them for various projects and watched as the “teeth” just get erased on a pair of these (and others made by Stanley). The only time these would be useful would be on a project where you really don't need to use a set of pliers, but you have these around so you figure you might as well. DeWalt pliers on the other hand are great, and I'm sure FatMax pliers are good too—but stay away from these and the others like it unless you are working with very soft/thin metals or plastic, etc. For most metals you'll need better quality pliers, so spend just a little extra on better pliers, you'll be happy you did.
