Very good paper for watercolor painting. I tried scrubbing lightly and was able to lift off an area I didn't like. I let the paper dry and painted over the area with a different color. I uses a light wash on the background and the painting was lovely!
The paper is strong and holds up to the beatings given to it. Covers are thick and protect all the works. Crapas, watercolor, pen and ink, color pencil, conti...they all work nice on this cold press surface. Wish Strathmore made a hot press one also.
This journal is a great value for the money, I really like the weight of the paper and you can definately paint on both sides. It does buckle a bit under heavy wash but I can't say it bothers me in the least!
Perfect art journal. Sturdy and takes wet media perfectly.
Just the right size and weight for watercolor journaling
What can I say, great price, size, paper weight
Paper is good quality.
I use this to experiment with color mixing. Use mixing ratios to define the colors I like and discovered. The paper is true to color with 100 % cotton although it is 50/50 cotton and woodchip. It give me true colors when I paint on 100% cotton. Record ratios of colors mixed for future use.
I've tried similar cheaper products, but you can't beat strathmore. It's especially nice if you use washi tape or similar to create a border. I've never had the tape rip the paper when pulling it off, unlike cheaper brands of paper. The journal is a convenient size for travel and the hardcover is nice because the branding can be pulled off and it looks elegant. I'm using it for a watercolor travel journal and look forward to filling it up!
I first bought the smaller ones with watercolor paper in them to use as swatch books for my various brands of watercolor, inktense, and watercolor pencils. I moved up to the larger size as a way to organize the various things I was learning. I added bristol board ones to the mix for Zentangle catalog and swatch book for all my various markers. I love them, but there are some things to be aware of. The watercolor paper is very definitely different on the back of each page than the front. As in radically different. I make up for that by attaching a cut down piece of different watercolor paper like a flap to the back of each page. I can still use that reverse side, but it's not the same as the front. The bristol board ones DO let alcohol markers bleed through to the back, but are otherwise awesome sauce.
