As many campers know bringing the bikes can be challenging. We travel with our motorcycle in the truck bed, so putting them there is not an option. We originally put our bike rack on the back bumper of our camper which led to several problems. 1. We couldnt see that the bikes were still there. 2. On a long trip to Florida on rough highways the bikes literally beat dents in our camper 3. The weight of them eventually cracked the welding on the bumper. We had been looking for some sort of tongue mount bike rack, which we found at a whopping $2000 out of Canada. When we saw this adapter at Walmart we thought we'd give it a try. Once my husband attached the adapter securely to the tongue and over the propane tanks it was easy to put our current bike rack right in the universal port. There is some natural movement like with any bike rack as we travel, but none to cause concern. Now we can see the bikes as we travel! We just took our first 11 hour trip with it and made no adjustments. It's also high up and out of the way so that nodody walks into it at the camp ground. Worked like a charm and provided us with peace of mind.
Ordered this for our Flagstaff pop-up camper, over all we're happy with it! It took a little extra engineering as we pull our trailer with a Honda Pilot and found there wasn't enough room between between the hitch %26 bike rack to maneuver. However, the problem was easily solve by buying a 14inch trailer hitch extension. Works perfectly now and we like the fact that we can see our bikes from the rearview mirror. It also is the better option than a roof rack as lifting bikes on and off of the car can be challenging... The one thing that we're anticipating is having to pull it off, when we set up our pop-up. It is one extra step but worth the hassle to be able to bring our mountain bikes on trips!
Solid, customisable fit. Does require some drilling.
Excellent item. Super sturdy.
Easy to install! Great product for the money!
This is a very solid option to hauling bikes with a travel trailer. The bike bunk is made very well and looks like it will do the job well. Because it is made to fit a variety of trailer models be prepared to have to do some work to mount it. You will have to have a good drill and bits for drilling the mounting bolts. If you aren't handy I would suggest getting someone to help you out. Took me about an hour to get everything fit and finished. If you are looking for a solution to a bike hauling problem I would recommend this product. I mounted this to a 2018 Coachmen Apex Nano.
Took me about 1 hr to install and it's rock solid. I was a bit concerned about clearance on my RAM 1500 bed cover - but it has about 1 inch clearance on a sharp turn. I have the same bike rack as pictured and it works out great. I used it this past weekend - about 1.5 hrs of driving each way and had no issues. Much more piece of mind being able to keep track of the bike.
HD and solid. I was impressed by its construction. I modified it a bit using clevis pins instead of supplied nuts / bolts on one side to meet my application.
I highly recommend this, very well made structure, good wields and a nice fit
We bought this in an attempt to find a workable way to carry bikes on our R-Pod. We were able to put the bunk on our tow bar and reverse it so it followed the contours of the front of our trailer. It was solid. However, when we put on our bike rack and two bikes, there was a lot of movement of the bikes and they seemed to be sitting precariously up in the on the small rod of our bike rack. There was no way to tie them down to make them more solid, so we had to return the bunk.
