With the heat coming from underneath very little is lost. This one has 10 different settings though I have never gone higher than the 5th setting. I usually keep it on 2 or 3 and this is in a room where the night time temperature gets below 50 degrees. It is important that you use a fairly think piece of bedding material over this bad because if all you have is a sheet over it you will feel the wiring.
If you're in the market for an electric blanket... buy this instead... I live in an old house with no central heat and use electric radiators to heat my home. I do like sleeping in a chilly room but not a chilly bed, hence; I have always used an electric blanket. Last year I adopted a shelter kitty..he likes the bed and gets under the covers.. no longer a very safe place for an electric blanket. My friend in NH told me about mattress warmers, I had never heard of them. I bought this one and slept with it for the first time last night.. I slept all night !!!! No more cold patches here and there under the blanket.. what a nice, even heat and I can trust this with kitty. I am SO happy to get the bulk of an electric blanket off me. I love this, I really do. Perfect fit, perfect heat, perfect night's sleep. Happy New Year!
I have only had this a very short while and used it just a few times...but it works exactly as expected. While time will be the true test...my initial impressions are very good. I am pleased with the performance and would recommend this to my friends.
This pad was a gift because I love mine so much. I keep my house cool and my windows leak so I often go to bed not realizing how cold I actually am. I try to turn on my pad about 1/2 hour before I go to sleep so I get in a toasty bed. I turn it off at this time as I tend to be too hot during the night even on #1.
I live in a travel trailer with only a small amount of insulation in the walls so it gets cold in winter. I decided to get a heated mattress ad to keep me warm when I am in bed. The first time I tried it out I was happy to find out how warm my bed was when I crawled into it for a nights sleep. I had the temperature control a tiny bit too high so I turned it down from 3 to 2 and it was perfect. I was also happy to find out that it turns itself off automatically after about ten hours or so and that tells me that it's time to get up. I wish I had had this mattress pad last year instead of freezing all night in a cold bed.
I like warmth on the mattress and light cover on top. This is perfect for me.
As advertised, quick shipping and I love it! Just what I needed for crawling into warm bed on a cold night.
I've always had a heated mattress pad and lost my control during a move, so I bought this one. I've never had one that gets this warm and does it almost instantly. I used to preheat my bed for over an hour (I hate getting into a cold bed in the winter), this one I turn on as I'm putting on my nightie! I do agree with others that the control is very hard to turn, I only use mine on high and then turn it off so not a big deal for me. What does matter to me is most of the heat is where your torso is and your feet get very little which is where it is most often needed. I have to curl up to get my feet warm. If those two things were corrected, it would be the perfect instant on heating pad!
I thought it would be a little thicker - can feel the coils - put our normal mattress pad and sheet over that - makes it a little less annoying.
It heats up well and takes the chill off the bed. However, the wires in the pad are HUGE with little padding from the pad. So I had to put a blanket on top of the mattress pad or she would have been sleeping on a bunch of extremely visible and large wires. The thickness of the blanket makes the wires barely discernable, but without the extra padding it would have been a useless AND unused mattress pad.
