Sturdy and does it's purpose.

I’ll be perfectly honest here. I’m not a roofing contractor nor do I work for one. I’m a computer network engineer, but I know the value of a speed square and that it has many uses other than framing a roof. The 7” one will come in very handy when I assemble and check my 3D printers Z-axis gantries for square against the base. I do plan to build a shed this summer for all my yard machines and tools, and the 12” one will let me make sure my wall studs are perfectly plumb and square, and the roofing trusses will be flawless. The included 60-page booklet is full of useful information, although to be frank, there are a lot of good YouTube videos, and a good percentage of them use the Swanson speed squares as the de facto standard. That says a lot. I’m also pleased these are made in the USA. As far as I can tell, they are cast aluminum alloy and not sintered. They’re light yet strong. The markings are clear to see as they are all recessed and painted with contrasting black.

These Swanson Speed Square, are very easy to use, helpful in so many ways, Checking to see the the Blade on your circle saw is Square for the perfect straight cut. Cutting crown moldings in your front room or a frame, The Swanson Speed squares are a quick and easy way to check if what you’re working on is square. The Set come with A "Blue Print" book Showing all the uses that these can be used on.Amazing the number of uses . The Set includes 1- Big 12" and a 7" Speed Square

Swanson Tool Co Value Pack 7-Inch & Big 12 Speed Square Layout Tool Kit without Layout Bar, model SW1201K The Swanson 12” & 7” speed squares are packaged together in a value-packed kit. They are made of heavy gauge aluminum to last a very long time - years. The pricing point of this kit is less than $20. A plastic speed square typically lasts me, a Di-Yer, about 5-7 years before breaking. These will be the last speed squares for me. The 12-inch square is handy for designing rafters. Both speed squares are versatile and can replace other tools such as the try square, miter square, saw guide, line scribe and protractor. These are good items and are well-built. Given the versatility, the ruggedness and modest pricing point, this kit is a real value! This is a good product; I like it and recommend it and give it ***** (5) stars.

The Swanson 7 & 12 inch speed squares are well made and heavy duty. The finish seems tough and will keep the speed squares looking decent. If you are a roofer or need to find your roof pitch the square can be placed at the pivot point and rotated to see if you have for example a 4/12 pitch or if you prefer degrees it has those as well. One of my favorite uses for speed squares is to use it as a circular saw guide whech cross-cutting boards or other lumber. I would have rated these both five stars but when I dropped the smaller square onto a cement patio the guide corner chipped and broke off. I have never had this happen before so maybe that square was defective and not common on other squares.

It only came with the small speed square. the large one is missing.

There was only one speed square thrown loose in the bottom of the box. We did not receive the whole kit.
