Wasn't sure what to expect with this product. Love me some Taco Bell, but remained skeptical about re-creating the food at home. I was pleasantly surprised! It was tasty, relatively easy, and far cheaper than visiting the restaurant. Hint: heat the tortillas slightly so they don't tear.
My husband and I are huge Taco Bell fans and while nothing can beat actual Taco Bell, this is a very close second for us! Super easy to make, with detailed instructions which is nice. Tastes soooo good! I honestly think the meat tastes better than Taco Bell meat. If you get your favorite Taco Bell sauce to go on it, it's great!! Definitely recommend to any Taco Bell fans
This makes TASTY burritos, especially with leftover chicken or shrimp and Tajin. You will need your own protein and Mexi-cheese but the rest is all in the box. The only problem is the included 4 soft flour tortillas tend to get beat up inside the box, and you have enough filling to make as many as six, so I just keep a package of XL burrito tortillas in the fridge to make extras or replace a broken one. Comes with rice but you can add diced potato if you want. To really dress it up, consider scallion, cilantro, jalapeno, and fresh lime for squeezing. Follow directions and take your time the first time, it's a little involved, but easy to remember. Enjoy!
These are a bi-monthly, if not weekly, staple in our house. Walmart has the best price of course, but not always the best quality. Shelf life and handling seems to affect the product we receive significantly. They are either perfect or not. Sometimes they are stale, the corn tortillas are broken, and the flour tortillas are too stiff and tear when folding them. I highly recommend making sure you cook the seasoned meat for the full ten minutes to get the excess liquid of, warm the corn tortillas in the oven, and microwave the flour tortillas so they are pliable when folding them. Also, using an electric skillet sprayed with avocado spray to cook these makes a huge difference and gets them as close to the real deal as they can be.
Giving it 4 stars because the rice is plain white rice. I feel like a spanish rice would have been way better with the burrito. other then that it was good. I probably wouldnt buy it again unless they swapped the plain white rice out of spanish rice though.
The taco seasoning was the only thing good about this, the chipotle sauce was bit spicy , usually when I eat burritos, I don't tend to have minds with chipotle sauce, the tortillas kind of taste harden like it's been sitting on the shelf for a while and every time I folded the tortilla, it kept breaking apart , and the cheese taste like raw Velveeta the cheese is the worst part of it. All the cheese from these brands are same tasting. The cost is high for this quality.
As a Taco Bell Employee (2004!) I KNOW the Nacho Cheese is "not-your-cheese" taco bell! haha for real! tastes like an expired velveeta or a kraft knockoff (wayyy salty) and the seasoning contains SiliconDioxide which I KNOW affects the taste 100% - (even if taco bell has other carcinogen ingredients you would not taste it lol no but seriously: RESTAURANT TEMPERATURES are HIGHER and BETTER than any home...unless...you are a billionaire with a pro chef) sigh- NOT delicious, NOT worth the price (OVERPRICED !!! SINCE WE MUST BUY THE MOST IMPORTANT INGREDIENT$!) a fake rice bag, (Taco Bell had BOILING WATER of a certain temperature for the rice bags and then kept warm inside a special warmer! - and 4 tortillas (which are NOT a true burrito size!) bad queso and a sauce that has more ingredients than a cake with a 30 cent seasoning should not cost us close to $7!!!
The preparation of the ingredients to make up the burritos was fairly straightforward, but putting everything together in the tortillas was difficult because the tortillas didn't soften enough to be able to form the burritos and they were very hard to eat.
These were gross. The tortillas were old and hard, the rice looked like there was either a dehydrated bug or mud the size of a nickel inside. I'd rather they offer a kit that has the sauce or seasoning alone. The kit has an expiration date 3 weeks from my purchase date
If you like tortillas that are dry, crumbly and taste like cardboard, then you'll love this. If you have taste buds and expect food, do not buy. The tortilla was horrible and dry. I literally could not use this kit to prepare food for my family. I am sad because I lost money and was given stale food that was expired. I wish Walmart gave their customers fresh products instead of just sending out stale products to make money off of us. We deserve better. I am very disappointed. AVOID THIS PRODUCT. IT IS DRY AND FALLS APART. HORRIBLE TASTE AND TEXTURE.
