This Robin Hood is my favorite. Movies from that era were beautiful, full-color and had story lines. Wonderful!
fast and as expected
Earl Flynn's best movie ever... and every time I watch it it brings back memories of my family watching it together when i was a child
Great movie at an excellent price.
movies of all time. Great cast for a great movie. This movie has aged well, and has been restored to it's former cinematic COLOR. Flynn and De Havilland made something like eight movies together, this might be their best.
First I own this movie in HD DVD (Red-ray). I was pleasantly surprised to find the Blu version MUCH clearer & more vibrant. I thought that the data transfer to 1080P was 1080P but when you compare these two versions simultaneously the difference is noticeable. I have a PS3 for my Blu-ray & a Media PC with an XBOX 360 HD DVD player, so I guess I am comparing fairly. I just want to say if you are looking to save a few bucks buying the red version shop around & get the blu! You will not be sorry! I paid $18.00 for a brand new & shipped blu on Amazon. I paid $7.00 shipped for a perfect used red on eBla. About the transfer, TERRIFIC! Like someone else posted The Movie is from 1938. Thats 71 years old! So accept my review based on that & not compared to a BD's like Narnia or National Treasure 2. The only bad I saw was on the sides of the picture it was slightly blurry. I first noticed this in the scene when first see Olivia de Havilland. Her dress was very clear while Claude Rains was a little fuzzy. This type of fuzziness continued throughout the film, but to be fair I have a 50" Plasma & this is a 16:9 TV. The disk was not formatted to fit 16:9. I did NOT watch it in the native 4:3. This slight fuzziness did not take away from the quality of the transfer. There were very few scenes that were, Oh in need of improvement. These were mostly as I recall darker scenes, which I have noticed to be a pattern with 1080P transfers. The Audio like the poster mentioned above was Stereo, but I set my sound system to play all speakers, & once the movie got going you never noticed it, unless you looked for it. Movies then however were totally different. They made you think much more about the plot. Older movies IMHO are much more captivating. The movies today draw you in with CGI & sounds. The direction is all action, sxx, & violence, or whatever, but I'm sure you get my point. I would love to see many more of these older films transfered.
For those who own a Blu-ray player, The Adventures of Robin Hood, starring Errol Flynn and a marvelous cast, is a film buff's treasure. This Technicolor movie was the number one box office draw in 1938. The brilliant color rendering is all the more enhanced by the Blu-ray process. This DVD includes a myriad of "extras", including a documentary outlining the development of color use in movies and the significant role this classic swashbuckler had. [If one were to quibble, the vast array of choices given in the menu are at first confusing, but provide many hours of film history and entertainment.] In terms of value, this is a great bargain and should be in the collection of any classic film aficionado.
A fun classic that i have seen finally in its entirely!
I remember having a copy of this as a kid. My little brother liked to watch it. This was back in the day when in movies/tv, the good guys were nice and polite while the bad guys were mean and selfish! Today the good guys act no different than the bad guys!
