Great movie and a great ensemble cast. It is quite possibly one of the most overlooked horror movies of the eighties. Originally it was only distributed to Art House theatres but gained popularity with the advent of DVD %26 Blu ray. It could be considered slightly "campy" but it is still a great movie. It is based on a Bram Stoker story of the same name and actually stars a legitimate royal princess. Add a Doctor (Peter Capaldi) mix in a smidge of Hugh Grant with Catherine Oxenberg and bring it all together with Amanda Donahoe as the titular lead character and you have a seriously surreal romp through the Scottish Highlands Bram would be proud of.
The Lair of the White Worm (1988) loosely based on Dracula creator Bram Stroker's novel regarding a White Worm legend. Not for everybody but if you want something "different" from the usual vampire, zombie and slasher fanfare, try this one. In modern day, rural Great Britain Lady Sylvia Marsh (Amanda Donohoe), is an immortal priestess to an ancient snake god interacting with locals around an archaeology excavation site. Amanda Donohoe is amazing as her character infuses equal amounts of dark humor, sexuality and sheer terror effortlessly. A young and fairly unknown Hugh Grant as a local Lord of the Manor becomes her adversary. I was blown away with the serious performances in a nonsensical script, the low budget, mind blowing graphics/production values, and a story infused with horror, sex and dark, adult, British humor all which made for a totally original and unusual film experience. Definitely Not for kids or those who prefer standard, established cinematic storytelling. Check it out if you dare! This version includes the Director's audio commentary and interviews. Also a digital copy included for viewing when away from home.
Cool art for this one! Glad to see Walmart pick up the physical media ball with these exclusives! Keep ‘em coming!
I remember seeing this back when it came out and I wasn't really a fan and I know my brother loved it And was A fan of the story that was written by Bram stoker, AKA the author of Dracula. haven't watched it yet but the steelbook is amazing and I think I like it now that I gave it time to grow on me.
Great "Cult Classic" movie. Just a fun simple horror film ride. Based on the short story by Bram Stoker, "Lair Of The White Worm". This release includes a excellent re-master %26 some really great extras. A featurette, interviews %26 audio commentaries to be exact. The steelbook case in my opinion is, absolutely beautiful. I really love the images on the front %26 Back. I would absolutely recommend the movie itself, as well as the awesome packaging.
Steelbook is so nice looking in person. Haven't watched the movie yet. Will be a first time watch.
