My iPhone iPad and MacBook Air was hardly moving because so full of stuff. The problem is I have too many videos and photos in one folder that's taking up half the spaces on iCloud with 2T plan. Once I moved close to 1TB of this particular folder to the Toshiba 2T drive, everything is working again. Not only that, when I need to use those videos and photos, I can just plug in the Toshiba Drive and I can access them instantly, instead of waiting for the videos and photos to slooooowly download from iCloud. Attached pic shows my iPhone is roomy again after I freed up space on iCloud.
This was a great value for the price. It's durable, perfect in size, was simple plug and play, and came with two cords -- one for USB and one for USB-C, which was more than I expected. I purchased this for a friend, but once I received it and got it all set up, it was really hard to let it go and turn it over because it's a nice drive, and I would have enjoyed keeping it for myself.
The drive has a good rubberized surface that is rough, making it very easy to hold and grip, and is anti-skid when placed on a surface. It has a full 4 TB's of space and I encrypted the drive using Veracrypt whole disk encryption and filled it with about 3 TB's of data, mainly very large (around 100 to 300 Gig each) backup files. It's holding up without any issues thus far. I've copied the files off of it a few times now to test it and so far no issues. Very highly recommended!
I bought this to get all of the photos from my phone and off of my old laptop before I upgraded. This device was able to store all of those photos/videos and managed to use like 15% of the overall space. I intend on using this for some years to come. Make sure to keep the cord because it's essentially irreplaceable.
great storage for iphone. just plug in and move the files/photos over to the drive. good solution for a backup or out of storage devices. would buy again.
The Toshiba HDD itself is good and has a better deal vs other; but its own storage back up software is not that useful nor straightforward comparing to original WD sync / back up software yet unfortunately WD stops that support.
Do not use the software provided from them. It has a locker in it that means it can only be used on the computer you are using. In my case I wanted all the information C drive and files photos etc as I was worried the computer was about to blue screen, so I could re-install it on another computer. Called them, they answered quickly and told me they had just been made aware of this a week ago, told me to delet their drive, and completly delet the software app and it would then formate in the Windows 11 already on my computer, which it did. I used the Ntfs I think formate as it alllows you to take the "Snap Shot" at the bottom to copy the entire c-drive, and then after I was able to download all of my files and photos etc... It is fast, it came on time, well packaged and it works. Its not a thumb drive and takes a bit of up curve.
While it's clear that this external drive's software works for Windows PCs, please clarify if it's possible to be compatible with MacOS even if the product comes with both USB Type C and A in the packaging. I say this because even though I'm using the right USB Type-C cord and the drive shows up in Finder and on my Desktop, it won't allow me to transfer files of any kind from my MacOS (version Sonoma 14.2.1) into the drive. According to information on the Toshiba website, one of the system requirements it says is "Requires reformatting for macOS® v14.0 / v13.6/ v12.7" (https://storage.toshiba.com/consumer-hdd/external/canvio-advance-plus). I don't know what that means, nor does it provide further "reformatting" instructions or mention this in the software instructions. I'm still looking, but it seems that if there are no software instructions for MacOS, it can be implied that it won't be compatible with MacOS even though it's allowed to appear in Finder. Hopefully I'm wrong, and I'm still looking. But I really need an external drive with 4TB capacity ASAP, so it was very inconvenient not to have explicit warnings provided; it might be better to use MacOS instead of just Microsoft since it's more familiar to people.
needed this item and was delighted to find a Toshiba product offered but it never worked, connected, or turned on. could not access anything using it. I expected it to be warrantied. please replace it or refund my cost. thanks!
unfortunately this one was delivered with the seal broken and when plugged in it only showed 31gb of storage instead of 2Tb. Normally they're fine but apparently this one was tampered with. Formatting did not help
