Wanted a lot of storage space that isn't as easily available with thumb drives. It holds a lot, it's easy to use, you just plug it into your computer and see it listed as a drive letter, and then either copy or move your files onto this. The transfer speed rate is pretty good too. I like that it comes with two different cords, one for the old-style USB port and one for the newer 'C' style port, which is the kind of port most cell phones (and laptops) come with these days if you're wondering. The size is a little bigger than a pack of smokes and probably less than half an inch thick, so it is easily packed in a computer bag or a purse. I have two of these, it is kind of like having insurance for when your computer decides to randomly quit one day. It's peace of mind to have your work files, podcasts, photos, whatever backed up. Don't count soley on 'the cloud'- I have one drive in windows and when I lost connection trying to upload, it turned my stuff into a crdownload file and even though I spent hours with an AI and winzip, some of my stuff was lost , like quite a bit and the one drive tech help was a joke, one drive couldnt do anything to recover the files Its worth it.
2 Terabytes in my hand or in a woman's purse or in a backpack. Incredible speed, no problems. I reformatted the drive so it could be used on either a PC or a Mac. Use the disk utility to reformat using Ex FAT format and GUID scheme. Make sure you are formatting the right drive—you might lose a lot of data if you choose the wrong drive. But you can also just try it as it is, and that may work for your computer. I don't know if it will work with your cell phone, but I doubt it. A wonderful drive. Not cheap but not expensive either. If you plan to take it with you a lot, buy a case for it.
I have a few of these drives. Two smaller size (2TB) versions are dedicated to photos only or family history only. I have three of the 4TB. I have two computers and use a 4TB for each one's backup using the built-in Time Machine application. Because I am a little paranoid, the remaining hard drive is used to manually copy everything - docs, pictures, applications, etc. - from each system 'just in case'. Have I recommended these? Yes, in fact, I've given them as gifts!
If there is one thing that bugs the crap out of me it's external drives that randomly disconnects because the cord moved slightly. First, I changed cords from a USB-A to a C. That made it a bit better, but not perfect. Then I tried Toshiba. Like night and day. The port feels sturdier and more secure with the connection and I've had no problems whatsoever with it. My Mac quickly recognizes and it transfers beautifully! It's my first choice when I need to purchase one!
I love the product as I have this brand already that I purchased over 10 years ago so decided to give it another try. Now I have double the space. It gave me an installation challenge, which was my fault because I failed to format it prior to use. But after properly formatting, no problem as of date.
Its color is a bit bolder which is fine!! Almost any plug ins are black, sometimes are to see til I put lights on %26 hit it by accident cuz finding lamp switch when its early am %26 still dark. But this one you can see it w/yellowish caution color! Its small %26 compact as described, came with its own set of cables/plug ins. Some acc I have came w/o any plug in cables so I'd have to search/take one off another to use %26 didn't always remember to put them back. %26 next time I used the item I borrowed cables from, I had to search again.
Needed a backup for my Mac laptop (for the TimeMachine function), this does the trick! Seems to work very nicely so far, no issues as of yet. Can hear it when it's in use (nothing too loud), it has a tiny white indicator light and you can hear the disc start/stop inside. Just treat it with caution and it should be great.
I, actually, bought this for an external hard drive for my PlayStation 4. I think it works amazing for the price, but it does take a long time for the games to download on it and every once in awhile the games lag for maybe a second or two while you're playing them, which isn't a big deal. I would definitely recommend.
I have three of these and will buy another when needed. Note that these old-tech physical disc drives seem to power-down when not in use for a period of time. So when trying to access a file, it can take several seconds to spin up again before the file will load. I assume this prolongs the life of the drive. I have one that has been working fine for more than two years. If you need faster read/write speed, you'll need to buy an SSD drive for twice the price. The only thing I don't like is that it takes a proprietary cable, and the cable included is very short.
I did NOT get to use this item for more than a day because my laptop crashed, for the time I did get to use it, it worked well. I love the color, it's like mustard yellow. It's lightweight. I found the cord it came with to be loose, I'm waiting on my new laptop to use it again and will update my review. Overall good product.
