No computer is required for setup of the tp-link router, instead you can set up this router with your smartphone using the Tether app which is available in the Apple or Google App Store. This router can also be installed using a laptop or desktop computer. The tp-link router can be used as your only router or it can be used to extend your existing network by hooking up this router to the router provided by your internet provider. The latter is the installation that I chose because the router provided by my ISP has a very limited range. The tp-link router has extended range so you can surf the net around your house with no drop outs. This router has 4 antennas that are 7.5" tall and each one moves completely left, right, front and back to ensure better reception. This router is Dual Band and has 300 Mbps 5 GHZ + 600 Mbps 2.4 GHZ which makes it perfect for viewing 4K content and essential for households where multiple people are online at once. Includes 2 year warranty with 24/7 tech support.
I received the Archer C80 Dual band Wifi router last week, but my husband just got around to installing it last night. I was amazed at the difference it has made in our tvs, computers and smart phones. We are senior citizens, and not up on the latest developments, but this router was super easy to install, it practically installed itself. It also lived up to it's promises, which is delightful! I am very happy with this product and would recommend it to anybody!
We got this TP-Link WiFi 5Router and it is AMAZING. Very easy to plug and install. The directions are nice and clear. I hooked it up with the power cable and ethernet cable. Connected it directly to my rented internet modem/router. This router gets 2.4 and 5 as well as my rented one. But let me say this router gets about 80mbps more than my rented one. It it super fast, with no down points. I have only had it connected for about 2 weeks now and I am loving it. No buffering when streaming even if multiple devices are connected. I can reach my wife from my back yard. With my rented one I only got wifi on half my back yard. So the range is wide spread. I highly recommend it if you are looking for higher speeds and more coverage.
Presently, I am using this in tandem with my original router from Xfinity, so I am not solely using this as the only router in my home. (My home is a one story ranch and only about 1200 sq ft). That being said you can use this as your only router if you so choose. As far as overall performance goes this has fixed all of our lag issues. I am a teacher, so between using this for teaching while my kids are either using their Chromebooks for school work or using the Xboxes for gaming, we have not had a single issue. Pros: Really easy to set up Able to fix any lag issues Con: If you are looking for a USB port on your router it does not have one.
Got the Archer C80- Great router. Easy to set up and love the range. The four antennas allow for great coverage. You get 1300 mbps @ 5 GHZ and 600 Mbps @ 2.4 GHZ which is fantastic speeds. Price point is super too. Mu-MIMO technology so it is current tech. Footprint is good, slides right out of the way. You will be wifi enabled in no time at all. I have had other name brand routers throughout the years and this one is right up there with them in both quality and technology.
Set up was easy and quite fast. Instructions were clear. Wi-Fi router comes with features such as parental controls, security, and faster connection. It also has 4 antennas which they claim gives it superior coverage. Sets up to the app Tether for managing the network through your phone.
TP-Link Archer C80/AC 1900 MU-MIMO Dual-band WiFi 5 Router/ up to 1.9 GBPs. The measurements are 9” L X 5” W the router has 4 antennas advanced WiFi features, Parental Controls, Security protects your home and network. Has Smart Connect and 4 Antennas for signal strength. Many features, power on/off, reset, speeds up to 1900 Mbps. We found this does make our connections faster and it works on all devices and even our kindles.
I was really excited to get this new - hopefully higher capacity - Wifi Router. Unpacking it was very easy - the packaging and device itself were well designed and pretty self-explanatory. My husband installed it for me, because he is the tech guy around our house. Routers are all fairly similar at the end of the day. It's just basically a computer that takes information from a wire and transmits it over the air to your devices. The main questions are how much range does it have, how much does it cost, and how much bandwidth (speed) does it have, roughly. The reason I gave it four stars instead of five - after we had unpacked and unwrapped it, the instructions did not work for setting the router up. There was a web page you were supposed to go to, but the web page had nothing to do with setting up the modem. The QR code correctly routed to the web page - but again, that did not work once you got there. In the end we were able to directly use the IP address of this modem to access the set-up page. This router seems to be just as fast as our previous one, if not a little faster. It also seems to have a range that is equal to (or greater than) the one we were replacing - which is good. It has four ports to connect different devices. On a very personal level, I think it looks cool. I like the shape and design of this router compared to older versions.
This router is nice overall but for some reason, I kept dropping my wifi and my roku would say I had slow speed. That wouldn't happen when I would unplug it and reconnect to my old router. It could just be user error but I know it was plugged up correctly. The setup is pretty simple and comes with easy instructions. I like the overall look of it and the router itself is smaller than my old gaming router that I used to have, which I liked. This one has a lot of cool bells and whistles like the airtime fairness which equally divides network time and the parental controls were pretty nice too. That would have definitely come in handy when my kids were younger. You can assign times for internet usage and what devices can be connected. It has an app that you can download as well. I would definitely like to give this another shot to see if it does better. When it stayed connected, I didn't notice a huge difference from what I already had but I have pretty decent wifi to begin with. For someone looking to upgrade, this may be the right model for you and your family.
I chose the phone app tether to connect my router. I received a message at the end of the procedure that said "no devices detected" when actually both my laptop and tv were currently using the router now, After 45 min on the phone with customer service < chat > we still didnt solve the problem . Also the series of numbers you use for your passwords etc are termed differently in the actual phone app you use when you are hooking it up. The internet cable is way too short. In short,i cant tell a difference in the performance of this router from my old linksys which was almost ten years old. Except the set up on this one is way more convuluted and nonsensical. I would not buy this again Or recommend it.During the procedure i was asked to maybe try a different browser on my laptop, then when that didnt work i was asked to maybe try a different cell phone or tablet to open the app tether!
