I bought 2 of these phones for my kids to use wifi on and they work really good! They hold a charge also! I would recommend!
I bougt the LG Rebel 3, and I was kind of hating it because it was slow and many apps I installed quit randomly. Then I replaced it with the Alcatel TCL LX, which was even cheaper, and it has proven to be a great phone. I already installed like 10 updates and all the apps I had on my old phone, and it is still very fast.
I'm one of those "older" people who stubbornly refused to get a cell phone. I decided to finally get one for possible road or family emergencies but did not want to spend a whole lot on it just in case I really hated using it. So I ordered this Alcatel TCL LX refurbished Tracphone here and it turns out that I absolutely love it! It looks and feels like a way better phone than I expected. This really is a perfect phone for anybody who just needs to get a phone in their life. I'm very pleased!
I'm giving it a 4-star rating now. I may change my rating in the future. I've had the phone for quite some time, but just now got it activated. My perception of this phone may change as I learn how to use it.
Have had this one since Christmas as a replacement for the same phone which has a badly cracked screen. I love it, except the screen is brittle. Otherwise it would have 5 stars. I have a glove and screen protector and not an issue since. The ease of the screen cracking, (and actually having holes), is my only complaint. I still have the cracked one. It still works for internet and messages, (I have it bedside for an alarm clock). I can not talk on it or make phone calls, thus the need for a replacement. If you purchase this phone be sure to get the glove & the screen protector.
Would give five stars, if it wasn't for the way too sensitive touch screen. Also the fact that it forces you to connect to wifi, or roaming, then makes the phone turn off, while updating software, which is way too often.
Pros: -Low cost -Does everything a smart phone should/needs to -good video quality -durable (its lived up to normal abuse, though the screen cracked it still works normally) Cons: -Brittle screen (once the screen breaks more bits keep flaking off, especially around the front speaker) -limited memory and expansion capabilities -limited RAM (running some apps can cause it to slow down quite a bit) -poor touchscreen accuracy and response (unlocking it can be a issue as it doesn't always get the position correct, I've also had it respond to water and any soft materiel with a low electric current like a headphone cable)
This is the 2nd one of these phones that I bought and they both became unusable within a couple of weeks. The both stopped connecting to my home internet within a week or two after activation. Then the first one stopped allowing me to use my data. My 2nd one quit connecting to my home internet last night so I can only assume it will be only a matter of time before it stops letting me use my data. Which really doesn't work for me. I can see why they give them away for free. Now I have to look for another phone again. Never had such problems with my other phones and this was supposed to be an upgrade. I do not recommend.
I understand it will be a risk to get a reconditioned item. It's true. I received this reconditioned item that had a defect "new" battery. I charged this item for 24 hours for the first time, the power went from 94% to 81% and it was never able to get to 100%. I had to return it. This item also only supports English, Spanish, and French. It is probably sufficient for most of the users, but if you need to install other languages, this item is unable to do so. So I returned the same model twice and still don't have a phone until today.
The first week I got it I couldn't receive text or calls. The texts didn't come in sometimes until nearly a week later. The only thing I could do was make calls and when I did my phone wouldn't let me hang up. This phone is practically a paperweight because it couldn't receive TEXT AT ALL. It let me make phone calls and then it wouldn't let me hang up. It was only good for browsing the web.
