Track oval is larger than i thought, which is good. Train headlight and whistle work nicely. Didn't try the water with the steam yet, i don't think. Wish it was not made of plastic but this version of train set WAS slightly heavier than one for same price on another site at least. Don't know how long the battery lasts. Had a short charge so we could at least get our 4 yr old birthday boy a chance to play with it out of the box for a short time. Needs to be charged with phone or computer charging plug you plug into the wall or computer. He loves trains and hope it lasts, but unsupervised, i don't know if it will. He loves to play with ours we set up with Christmas ceramic, resin and plastic village houses, church, shops, street lamps, sledding children, Santa etc. This year we gave that job to our Littles and they had a blast. Gave the birthday boy one of our village sleds atopped with a kid with a hockey stick, another with skis and an elf. He recognized it from our village and was so happy we were giving it to him to start his own. Also bought him small Santa, snowman and Street Light from the dollar store to start his village. But the train was the icing on the cake.
After watching it go around and lying in the oval as it chugged along for awhile, he said it was giving him a headache and that it was too big. I think he wanted it to do its own thing while he played with his cars. But the oval track took up just too much room. Rather than make it a circle, we just helped him take it apart and store it in the plastic bin we also got him to keep it organized to use next time. Was a successful gift.
