I have used Valvoline products for over 50 years and find them to be of the highest quality. Regular vehicle maintenance and no abuse and Valvoline won't let you down. Being Ford no longer supplies Dexron II of III nor Mercon ATF fluid I have to go aftermarket and find Valvoline to be great choice. Sure I can spend two or three times as much for other brands but I would still change it on the vehicle manufactures schedules. In that case Valvoline does the job for me and I have never had a problem related to the ATF fluid.
For Dexron III or Mercon applications it's a good value on a semi synthetic fluid. It's not a full synthetic fluid like Dexron VI or Mercon LV and is just fine for non extreme duty 30K mile change intervals. Older transmissions like 4L60, 4L80, AOD, and E4OD unit's work just fine on Dexron III fluids.
My 1997 Lexus ES300 calls for this Dexron III in the book for both the A541E transmission and also the power steering fluid. It has proven to earn my trust and Walmart sells it at a great price and it's Valvoline, what more can I say.
Buy a fluid extractor, suck out the contents of your transmission...pour exact amount as replacement of Valvoline..and you will never (or shouldn't have to) have transmission problems for the life of your vehicle. I've been doing this with my 2002 Chevy Avalanche I purchased new...now with almost 250,000 miles. The fluid looks like strawberry soda (don't drink it though!) and shifts like new. I was told early on that transmission fluid wears out due to heat and keeping it fresh insures long transmission life. I do process once a year.
I recently changed my vehicle"s transmission fluid by using Valvoline transmission fluid and have been impressed with the results. Shifts feel noticeably smoother, gear engagement is crisp, and the transmission runs cooler during long drives and stop‑and‑go traffic. Valvoline's formulations seem to strike a good balance between lubrication and the controlled friction needed for reliable shifting. Performance and protection Valvoline provides solid protection against wear and thermal breakdown, which gives me confidence for both daily driving and towing/light hauling. In my experience the fluid maintains stable viscosity under heat, helping prevent slippage and reducing the transmission's operating temperature. Compatibility and product range I appreciated Valvoline's range: they offer conventional ATF, low‑viscosity fluids for modern transmissions, and High Mileage/MaxLife options for older vehicles. That made it easy to pick a product that matched my manufacturer specs without worrying about cross‑compatibility. Value and availability Valvoline sits in a sensible price band—more affordable than some premium niche brands but still delivering noticeable benefits. It's widely available at auto parts stores and quick‑service shops, which made topping up or doing a drain-and-fill straightforward. If you need a reliable, broadly compatible transmission fluid that improves shift quality and protects against heat and wear, Valvoline is a strong choice. For high‑mileage vehicles consider their MaxLife line; for modern low‑viscosity gearboxes check the label to match OEM specs. Overall, good performance, good value, and easy to source. I drive a 1999 Toyota Camry with 335 k miles on it.
I used this Valvoline Dex/Merc transmission fluid/filter change in my 2004 Chevy 2500HD 6.0 4L80 transmission. Worked great. This is considered Dextron 3 and that is what my 4L80 transmission came with new. No issues at all, shifts great after the fluid change.
All Valvoline products are top quality and this Valvoline Dex/Merc transmission fluid meets specifications for the power steering fluid in my tractor. High quality fluid at a competitive price is a winner to me.
Can always count on this brand . It does what it says and always in stock . Even for home delivery
Valvoline automatic transmission fluid is my go to product. Walmart always seems to have the best price as well. I have had better results with this than with the cheaper brands. Also, there is a see through portion on the jug to see how much fluid you have used. The only transmission fluid I would give a higher rating to would be a fully synthetic fluid (which is usually significantly more money).
I ordered 3 gallons of the fluid and only one showed up. The other two were delivered to a different house. They took a picture of the delivery but the house was not ours. Had to call for a credit since it was going to be four days before they could make the next delivery.
