We experienced a huge drop in temperature this week which seems to have driven mice into the house. I've recently heard some rustling in the walls so I was very eager to try out this Victor electronic mouse trap that offers not only a mess free way of getting rid of pests, but sends alerts to your phone or device to let you know when it does! The trap is heavy plastic and feels well made. Underneath it there's a place to hold four AA batteries. The top of the trap snaps open and at the far end there's a tiny bait cup. Trying to get peanut butter in it while not allowing it to touch the metal plate next to it is a challenge. I struggled using a plastic knife. The end of a chopstick would have worked better. I powered it on and loaded the app on my Android tablet from the GooglePlay store. Installation went well, but I did have some problems with getting the trap to find my wi-fi. It failed a few times even though the signal strength was high. I kept trying and was able to get the code off the trap scanned in and the app and trap to link up. I like that you get to name the trap so you can be super specific like “basement under stairs trap”. If you buy more of these traps, this is important. I placed it in the kitchen and hoped for the best. It's hard to know if the trap is actually on as there's no light that stays on to tell you. Even just the button showing an orange or red color beneath it when pressed would be better than nothing. All in all though, I'm so happy this product exists. How convenient! And it sure makes getting notifications more exciting. Update: I moved the trap out to the back porch and have caught two mice in three days. This thing works awesome!
This Victor mouse trap is indeed a modern twist on an otherwise simple mechanism. Unlike mechanical traps that either use a spring or sticky pad, this trap uses electricity to shock the mouse. The device is able to connect to your home's wifi so you can receive alerts when a mouse is caught. In addition, there's a light that also lights up when a mouse is inside the box. The mechanism is set up such that a mouse that enters will trigger the electric charge and kill the mouse quickly. The box lid simply pops open so you can put in bait (cheese) and also dispose of the mouse's body. In addition, the trap requires 4 AA batteries (not included). All in all, this is a much fancier mouse trap that brings us to the modern era.
We had a mouse problem when we moved into our house. We bought some Victor mechanical traps, the traditional kid that snap closed onto the mouse and kill it as it steps on the yellow platform while getting the bait. In 2 nights we caught a whole family of mice. However, the issue was that I had to remove the dead mice (gross) which required donning gloves, releasing the spring trap, and removing the dead mouse to dispose of it. Also I had no way of knowing if a mouse went into the trap overnight so I had to check it each morning and some of the traps were in hard to reach areas like behind the oven! Enter this product, the Victor Smart Kill Electronic WiFi enabled Mouse Trap. This mouse trap is a chamber that has a hole for mice to enter. Then there is a door they go through to get the bait, and the floor of the trap has an electric charge that shocks and kills them (powered by 4 AA batteries). Victor claims this method is supposedly more "humane" than other kill methods. The trap is connected to WiFi so when the trap is triggered, you receive a notification on your Android phone or iPhone (you must download the free Victor app). In any case, this solves both the issues I had with the mechanical traps. I no longer have to check the trap to see if a mouse was caught since I'll know when I am notified on my phone. Also removal and disposal is not yucky since the top of the trap pops up and you can simply flip the trap upside-down and drop the dead mouse out. You can also remove the trap chamber part of the trap from the part with the electricity so you can clean/wash it in water. I did have some issues connecting the trap to WiFi but only minor ones. Overall this is a smart and novel product and I am impressed that Victor is constantly evolving with as new technology is developed. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who wants to catch mice cleanly, humanely, and with minimal effort.
The only area in my house I have an issue with mice is my bathroom and this is an indoor mouse trap, it is smart looking, unobtrusive and it gives me piece of mind that I won't have no unexpected surprises that I will step on. I use peppermint in the area but it is only a deterrent, now I don't have to be concerned about applying it regularly and I don't have to have that smell always there for that to work. The peppermint is the first measure and only a deterrent, this will the be the constant line of defense that will dispose of them humanely and I feel confident this will be more than a deterrent but a barrier against them spreading. It is good to know that there will be minimal contact once trapped inside, just empty, clean and put in fresh bait, there is no guesswork if there is a mouse in in the trap or not, the information will be on the app and you will get a kill alert. That alone makes it hassle free and the rodent is hidden from view. No questioning, checking the trap and wondering if it has been used, you don't have to see the mouse to know if it is there. The bait cup is really small so you are not using too much bait just the amount needed. You can name the trap so you know the location it is in if there is more than one trap in use, you can know which one has been activated. It claims to be quick and humane so that is an extra layer of comfort that it is not a prolonged kill and that matters to me as well. Reusable, easy disposal, and no-see, kills in seconds is a very efficient and sanitary way to defend against this nuisance, it is not a nuisance anymore.
This trap will notify you when a mouse get caught, just download and setup the Victor app, add to the Wi-Fi connected trap up a high-protein bait (as peanut butter) and wait to be notified. We haven't mouse issues but we added this in our garage, you never know! We will see whether we catch a mouse, the trap is supposed to electrocute the mouse and the disposal is a no-thouch no-see one. You can name the trap if you have multiple ones so the notification will mention the one which caught a mouse. The notification is useful to make the disposal fast for you...and for the mouse.
This is really a cool idea. I really liked that it would notify you if you had a mouse in the trap. The wireless setup is a bit involved and can be confusing and frustrating but I got it all working. I am pretty rodent adverse so I take steps well in advance of winter to insure no little buddies are moving in. So I knew there were no mice in my house so I put the trap in my garden shed. The trap was there 72hrs with no results but it did report the battery life so I knew it was working. From there I moved it to my barn thinking surely it will find one there. Nope, I did too good of a prep job I guess no mice to catch. So I can't report on that aspect of it. But the wireless part really works well as best as I could determine.
From an overall perspective, I'm excited to have this trap in my rodent arsenal. Knowing that I can easily place this trap and monitor it from my phone without having to go look in the trap every day is such a relief. I don't have to worry about seeing a smooshed mouse ever and can easily discard of it without ever having to actually see it. I have not had a mouse issue yet this year so I haven't put this device to action. I'm confident in its ability to operate as designed. The instructions are easy to follow and I don't feel like I will have any trouble getting it set and ready for use when the time comes. I like that my kids won't have to see it either. Makes this a great product!
Well I have had this trap now for just under three weeks. I do not usually have a mouse problem, but maybe once a winter a mouse may leave droppings somewhere I can see them as I live in the country. I then bait a trap and usually within a day or two I check the trap and there is a mouse. I baited this trap just as I got it, but now after about 17 days I have no mouse... not that I expected one. The trap is pretty high tech considering it will notify me via email that a mouse has been trapped and dispatched electronically. Maybe if it just started an LED light flashing, or emitted a shriek like a fire alarm does when the battery is failing would be enough. But setup was quick and easy and after install 4 batteries and baiting with peanut butter, I set it and waited. So far no mouse, but I don't think it is the trap's fault, as there may be no mouse in my house to catch. It seems safe for pets, and humane to the mouse and easy to dump the dead mouse in the trash.
My family was excited to get the Victor Smart-Kill Electronic Mouse Trap. We downloaded the app and tried to follow the instructions, but could not make any connections. Of course, we were setting out up in the evening when the "help desk" was not available. After a few days, my son was finally able to get help from technical support and connect his phone to the trap. It has been over 4 days, and we haven't caught a single mouse. I like the design and it is compact enough to fit in small spaces. I would recommend making it easier to connect the trap to clients' phones.
Purchased with great expectations that someone had finally “built a better mousetrap”! Package arrived and after installing batteries it wasn't too difficult to set up. I was excited and hopeful to have found a no muss, no fuss solution to our seasonal mouse infiltration. Sadly. Not so. I heard the activity near the trap, heard the buzz/hum of electrical shock, got the notification on my device that there was a kill in the trap… and nothing. Ok, reset. Another notification, another empty trap. Reset again. The next night I hear a prolonged buzzing, it stops and then buzzes again. No notification this time and no mouse either. The mice around here must be impervious to electrical shock, they got to the bait and left the trap empty.
