Still the best deal for storage per capacity from reputable manufacturer. I would recommend this for cold storage or backup drive. The actual read 65MB/s and 50MB/s start which later drops to 45MB/s read and 35MB/s write for me after buffer is cached. I tested on multiple platform Win/Nix on IPTv/Lap/Desk, same result.

I was excited to see a solution to storing and accessing a massive game library, but this drive simply does not have the speed to play games directly off the drive. From very basic to advanced games I noticed episodes of lag spikes and it a few games even skipping. I thought this may have been my internet connection, but this would occur even with offline games. As another test, I uninstalled the internet games off the this drive and re-installed them on my computer's built-in hard drive and had no issues. The concept of this drive is great, have a way to store and access a massive game library, however, as it stands this drive is good for nothing more than storing data. I'm giving 3 stars because it's actually a decent external hard drive and would probably give 5 if it was marketed as an external hard drive rather than as something which it clearly fall short of...

This product is marketed as a “game drive”. This is a storage drive and does not have good enough performance to be used for gaming. In fact, according to CrystalDiskInfo, the drive inside it is a 4800 rpm spinning hard drive that gets worse performance than a 7800 rpm spinning hard drive I have installed inside my PC. The only thing fast about this drive is the transfer rate of the interface which is SATA/600 which is overkill for the drive because it wouldn't even be able to keep up with SATA/300. I would have expected a SSD to be in this “gaming” drive since SSD's are not expensive anymore and this product is clearly marketed as a performance product. This is a bait and switch if I ever saw one and I would have expected better out of Western Digital. This is a clear example of companies throwing the name “gaming” on anything they want to get people buying no matter whether it can live up to that name or not. The only reason I rated it as high as I did is because I was able to repurpose it for something else that isn't a “gaming” purpose. It has a tough shell exterior so it'll be traveling in my laptop bag. They could easily have marketed it for that purpose. I'll keep it but I still need a drive that's at least SSD level performance. Check out the benchmarks. The proof is is in the pudding so they say. Drive “H” is this WD Black game drive and Drive “I” is an old PNY 120 gig SSD drive connected through USB and shows read speeds massively higher on the PNY. Drive “G” is a 8 terabyte spinning HDD inside my PC that also greatly outperforms this drive. If you're looking for speed, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a tough traveling companion for your data, it would probably work fine.

On the box it says that it's for PlayStation 5 but it doesn't work aim sending it back and need a refund
