Whatever did we do before GPS systems? I remember as a Boy Scout that we all had a survival compass for hiking. But nowadays, the average Scout has GPS , a Smartphone with a compass app, and hopefully enough bars to call for rescue help! But the tried and true manual compass still works just like it did in my Scouting days with some big improvements! Like being waterproof, an easy-to-read color (I got yellow), and handy measuring features built in so you can measure distances on maps. Plus, you get a pair of them for such a reasonable price, you can give one to your hiking buddy. Because if you're lost, they most likely are too! Get some for your entire family!
Instructions and training as use would be good. Still am just beginning to understand N, S, E, W. Used a compass many years ago in the military and would like to refresh those skills. Robin Dale Brown
As a Scout decades ago, I learned Orienteering -- the skill of using map and compass to find my way through a strange place, whether it is a dense woods or an unfamiliar city. A good compass, or two, is essential. GPS is a wonderful invention, but it does not work everywhere. I've been many places with no mobile phone coverage at all. So to get a great deal on a pair of compasses was a lucky find for me. These appear durable and accurate. Money well spent.
