I am 55 and never ate a can of chili in my life. I always thought it was absolutely disgusting. I don't really care for meat, especially hamburger. My friend had a can of Southgate chili and told me I would like it just take a bite. After much harassment from my friend, I finally gave in and took a bite. Words cannot describe the deliciousness of this canned chili!!! I am absolutely addicted now lol❤️
only got 2 cans yet ordered 4
Best canned chili I've ever had
great product great price
Another brand that has jacked with the ingredients. a bit on the heavy side of pepper, and it doesn't improve the taste in any way. it's "OK" for me, wife says they've put too much pepper for her. grandson likes spicy stuff, he just may get the 3 remaining cans.
This is one of those chili brands and styles that isn't so great 'on it's own', but it's more than sufficient for adding to stews, soups, chowders, etc or ladling over hot dogs or hamburgers. The texture is more of a gravy, but that's ideal for the above uses. The flavor is very good - although I most always add additional seasoning (salt, pepper, garlic, cayenne pepper) to taste.
Purchased on a trial basis due to the price. Taste is so-so with very little heat. As others have noted, it is very liquidly, more like sauce than actual chili. If you like a mild chili, at this price point, you might consider giving it a try. As for me, I'll go back to my regular brand.
Bland chili. Won't buy again.
the first thing that I didn't like was that the two cans were shipped in an oversized envelope with a little padding and they were loose, causing a lot of denting on both hands. then I asked for a replacement, and it still hasn't been shipped, so late last night I canceled the replacement. it was very runny with very little meat and beans in it, and unappealing.
Half of the cans of Southgate Chili had dents in them. Bugs were all over the cans. 2 of the cans were put in a plastic bag by there self and also had dents in them. It was the worse shipment I've ever received from Walmart.
