Here i thought this was going to be a safe purchase for my ball python! There are many tiny holes which is a red flag. They’re typical of insect-boring beetles or larvae that once lived in the wood. Even if the bugs are gone, the tunnels can still harbor:
dormant insect eggs
mold or fungal spores
bacteria trapped deep inside
sharp internal cavities that can splinter later
For a snake, that combo can mean mites, respiratory irritation, or belly-scale scrapes. Snakes explore with their whole body, not just curiosity.
