Great taste and easy to use! Makes a great meal!
Ran by Wal-Mart after work for a dinner idea, I read product label & purchased Blue Runner Creole Jambalaya Base for the first time and am blown away! I added this base to 1 bx Zatarain's Jambalaya Rice mix, 1 can diced tomatoes and 2 cups of water. While this was coming to a boil (as directed on both Zatarain's & Blue Runner base directions), I sliced two links of Richard's Creole Country Andouille Sausage and removed all chicken from a Wal-Mart Market Lemon Pepper Rotisserie Chicken to add later. I stirred in about 2 cups of frozen sliced okra, a little salt & onion salt and another cup water. Simmered with the lid on about 10 min, stirring occasionally. Added meats and cooked only 10 minutes more. Let set 10 min and was PERFECT! I will definitely try the other Blue Runner Creole Bases!! Proved to have a "just right" seasoning for this southern girl!
I love that I can fix jambalaya the way I want to. With this base, it is easy to do.
I would like to say that people (EVERY person) have “different” preferences and taste 👅 So, with that in mind, I won't say that this product was Bad or Good. Some people will find this to be Great, others “Meh” [middle] and others not so good. I was in the middle. I made mine with Andouille sausage, Chicken cubes, and a wee bit if shrimp. I also added a can of Chicken Stock (so that I could add another half cup of rice - to “stretch” things out). When it got to the part of “reducing” (taking off of the heat, so that the rice could absorb), I tasted the sauce and found it to be LACKING. (The “main” flavor I got was of FISHY 🐟) So, in order to Improve it I had to throw in some salt, MSG, garlic, and (my favorite), so SLAP-YA-MAMA seasoning. (PS/FYI - Slap Ya Mamas will “fix” 🛠️ just about ANYTHING 👍👍👍). It was only after that did the favor “WAKE UP”😳 (and be acceptable👍). Overall, I've td a TON of these Jambalaya over the years (and consider myself somewhat of a Creole/Cajun Connoisseur [or expert]). My Favorite 🤩 two mixes are: 1) Baku Magic - Cajun Jambalaya, and 2) Cajun Country - Creole Jambalaya (Google either one of these to find 🔎 them). 👍 (PS - Cajun and Creole are obviously somewhat “different”) So overall, this “Base” is adequate (decent), but [to me] was somewhat Bland, and needed to be GREATLY spiced up ⬆️ Try the others I recommend (above) - you will NOT be disappointed or unsatisfied).👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
