It is easy to overlook the importance of a good quality ruler. Afterall, it's just a ruler, right? I've been through many cheap plastic rulers in my life. The printing rubs off and they crack easily. But in fairness, they have their advantages too. Wood rulers are great, and I still use those, but a ruler of any material is a tool. Use the right tool for the right job. The Westcott stainless steel ruler hangs on the wall up there with my plastic and wood rulers. What I have learned with the stainless steel rulers is that they are a bit thinner and provide more accuracy for measurement. They flex allowing for measuring curved areas. And what I really like about this Westcott stainless steel ruler is that the measurement markings are etched into the metal. If the paint ever fades from the etched markings, using a crayon or China Marker to fill in the etchings will get you back in business quickly. You cannot do this with a plastic or wood ruler. Finally, the cork backing on the ruler really helps to keep the ruler from slipping when making measurements, drawing straight lines, etc. Also the brushed steel finish greatly reduces reflected light reducing that hindrance while trying to make measurements. A simple tool that is well designed and works well! Recommended!
Since it is steel, it sticks to a magnetic holder. Best ruler to use with an Exacto to cut straight lines. Cork bottom adds a tiny bit of height so ink/paint does not smear/run along lines. Also very handy to use, to compare centimeters (cm) to inches (when certain products are only described in cm.). Price is AMAZING.
I'm tired or dented or missing chunks from wooden or plastic rulers. I don't only use a ruler to measure. I frequently use it to draw straight lines on patterns or to create extras lines of pattern in knitting or crocheted graphs. So having a true straight line is a must if I'm going to read the graph successfully. So I opted for a stainless steel ruler this time. The cork backing means it stays in place but is still easy to move. Black marks on the bright stainless steel means I can easily read even the smallest measurement. And it doesn't even cost a lot? What's not to like?
Both seem to be well made and the metal one will especially hand because it is durable and has metric measurements that will come in very handy in on line shopping. Some on line retailers annoyingly insist on using metric measurements instead of the customary unit system to which most of us are more familiar in using for our measurements .
I needed a metal ruler for a school supplies, this has a cork back so it will not slide of the desk. Great product for a great price.
It's exactly what it says it is and does exactly what a metal ruler with a cork backing should do: it doesn't slip and a craft knife or whatever isn't going to cut into it easily.
easy to use. accurate. standard and metric. easy to read. well made.
Works as good as A wood ruler. Can see the numbers better on this steel one.
Best rulers in the market, can't beat quality and price.
This ruler really measures up to expectations.
